Whip Antenna

Find a place you want to mount the antenna and mount it (except for gutter mounting) :hack:
You can fab a mount or buy one, it wont make much difference.:weld: :grind:

The choice of using a spring is up to you, there will be slight differences in tuning the antenna but not a big deal.

When you tune it, make sure your below a 2:1 VSWR. Anything worse starts to eat into performance, anything better is un-noticable.

the reson i wanted the gutter clip was so i could clip the whip down and pull in my garage.

It seems this is getting mixed reveiws. so would i be better off puting a wilson 1000 on the roof or doing the whip?

do a 102" whip and only thread it on when you are out on the trail :)

takes all of about 5 seconds to thread it in so for 90% of the time when you're on the street you won't have it whipping around and banging into everything (no more parking garages or drive-thru windows) then when its time to go out just thread it on...

here is my truck

Im sorry, the Gutter Clip is fine to hold the whip down. They also make gutter mounts for antennas, thats what you want to stay away from.

If you want the whip, install the whip and try it. You can always down-size to a Wilson 1000 if it becomes a problem for you. I ran a whip on my old Toyota for years and never tied it down, including going into underground parking areas, liked to hear the bang..bang..bang..as it hit the overhead pipes :D

BTW, where is your mount now?? On the cab roof or the shell? Looking at your pic, and the texture of whatever it is mounted to, it looks like its on the shell but I cant tell.

Nice looking truck!!

Still on the fence about that

You have a hole , Wilson 1000 mount will go in that hole , you can unthread it to go in the garage . You will have a wonderful antenna :thumb:

wow i am really confused
Sorry,

This is what happens when you get a bunch of Hams arguing antenna theory:p:

Simply put, 102 inch whips good for redneck flag sticks:whistle: Otherwise just get a good base loaded antenna and mount it on top or on hood. Set SWR And yap away with your trail buddies. All will be well.

I absolutley live for the sound it makes as I pull through to order

Yeah I'll confess the Rally's drive-thru has seen it's fair share of my truck scraping through it and hopping the curb to get out :)

I am not really sure what you talking about but its on the roof

Thank You

At this point, go to Walmart or Radio Shack and buy a $20 antenna and hook it up. It will work on the trail and be good for a couple of miles with no technical things to have to worry about. There is a communication forum on this website that will answer every single one of your questions easily. You should be able to view the whole thing without buying a membership.

Alrite Well the radio i am gonna be running is a Uniden 78, just to let everyone know.

since there was so much different answers and discussion i am gonna ask to make sure.

Will it work if i mount a 102 inch whip with a stiff spring to the Bumper and then use a rain gutter clip to hold the whip down?
