Who has a living 700R4?

[ QUOTE ]
is the 4L80e that much better than the 700r4. i have one and was thinking of putting it in(with the LS1sitting in front of it of course lol)

the 4l80e is basically a computer controlled TH400 w/ overdrive.

the 700r4 is more like a th350 w/ overdrive. a 4L60e is a 700r4 thats computer controlled.

at least thats what i've been told. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

my truck has a stage 2 BTO 700 in it and im very happy. the old tranny lasted 150k before it bit the bullet. i dont think i'd go with any other tranny for my truck.

We had Allison tranny's in the school busses I worked on in school--

Nope. The Allison that is in the pickups has never seen duty in anything else prior to the release of the 01 HD trucks. It's not like they pulled a tranny from a school bus and slapped it in a truck like everyone thinks.

They just designed a new tranny and called it an "Allison" because they can--they own Allison.

It's also the only Allison I've ever seen with a, "park" position.

I love mine. I had ir rebuilt 5 years ago. I put 2 good coolers on it and a gauge. It rarely gets over 200, even when crawling. It has been super!!

Regretfully I agree with Tim, Every Allison I've seen doesn't have park. I remember looking at the 1000's stats and it had a slightly lower max power rating but more importantly had a much lighter GVWR compared to the other trannies Allison has available. They should have just named it the 5L85E or something. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

My K5 has 300000 kilometers on it and the 700 is still going good. My dads 84 4x4 pickup has the original 700 in it and it shifts kinda hard but his truck also has 300000 k's on it.
I have a TH400 behind a 454 in a '49 chevy pickup that has blown 3 rear ends and pretzeled a drive shaft so as for the th400 i'd say you can't go wrong if you need the streng and the 700 has worked great for my mild wheeling.

I was a passenger in my brother's bone stock '90 454SS Pickup when we gutted his TH400 while ripping second gear w/ 295/50s on the back (still under warranty though /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif)

I've blown a 700R4 in my 91 Pontiac Trans Am GTA (took out 2nd gear), and my Dad has taken out a 4L60E in his 95 GMC 1/2 and then the new and current owner took out the 4L60E that my Dad had a GM dealership put in it (so the truck is on it's 3rd trans now /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif), our motorhome on the otherhand has the TH400 and it's held up very very well so far all we've done to it was replace a few seals (this was due to it's age).
