I'm getting ready to do a rear disc swap and I was wondering who went with the eldo calipers? how does the e-brake cable hook-up? just connect your current line to the lever? any problems? How much did you pay for the calipers? junkyard, or reman? any info would be appreciated.

those that went with regular calipers, what do you use for a parking brake? mico lock? wheel chocks? nothing at all?

thanks

I'm running Eldo calipers and they hold pretty good. I am using the stock cables on my 89 blazer. Here is a pic of each side so you can see what i did about mounting the cable housing. All i did to my stock cables was cut the return spring off so it wasn't interefering with going through the return springs on my calipers.

I'm running the eldorado calipers. They are nearly impossible to find anymore except for new at TSM. The 79-85 are easy to find but they don't work for a 14bff. You need the 76-78. They work fine for braking but the parking brake isn't easy to adjust on mine an doesn't hold very well at the moment.

I don't have an ebrake. I live in Florida and the steepest hill is the slight grade on my driveway. I might eventually go with a driveline ebrake for the boat ramp though.

thanks for the pics

I've got the 3/4 ton front calipers... and i just bought jesse's driveline brake for my 205....

I don't have an e brake on mine either and when I park on a hill I just put it in park. Of course i am rarely parked on a hill for long

how well would a line lock for a drag car work as a replacement for a parking brake?

using as a way to hold the truck while wheeling Id think it would work but how long can it be left applied, and still funtion correctly?

No ebrake here, I used D60 calipers. :pimp: I don't have anything yet but plans are to use something like a mico lock in the future.

I have Jeg's brand electric line locks on both the front and rear of my Blazer. I've had them installed for years with no issues though they don't get used a lot simply because the truck doesn't get driven a lot, but I used them all the time when on the trail.

On mild terrain I generally just lock the front tires up (truck is generally in 4wd so the rear tires are mechanically locked to the fronts so all 4 tires are holding it). If I have to stop on a steep hill I will lock both the front and rear just so there is a backup if one or the other fail.

Probably had them on for up to an hour on the trail with no issues (no obvious leak down or anything) and they draw a really small amount of power so not like they will drain the battery unless you left them on with the truck off for quite awhile.

Mico lock....works good for off road.....won't pass inspection though...;)
Vee's in Cali, and we don't have vehicle inspections here (other than emissions). I'm planning on elctric Mico locks myself, but I haven't done the disc swap yet.

And here in California (pretty sure it's a Federal law actually anyways) that the E-brake MUST be a mechanical brake separate from the hydraulic system.

Also, inspections are sometimes required in CA by insurance companies. I had to have several old vehicles inspected before the insurance company would insure me and the ebrake functionality is part of those kinds of inspections. I had to have a few, but not with my current insurance company.

So basically, if your crap rolls down a hill while parked, and hits something, then you could be cited. Or if you had to get a brake and light inspection to bring your rig back from salvage status (totaled out by ins co), it won't pass. Otherwise, nobody gives a damn.

Never had to deal with any of that in my 20 years of driving in Cali. Must just be some oddball insurance games.:screwy: I've never had an ins co ask for an inspection on any of my vehicles, and most of my crap is old.:dunno:

I went with the TSM kit with Eldo calipers and they don't hold well. However, I believe it is because my cables are too long. I custom ordered cables from controlcables.com and I got them way too long. I need to re-measure and get new cables and I think it will work better. Not having an e-brake won't matter much for some, until as stated something goes wrong. Imagine your rig popping out of gear and causing some serious damage or death. Then when the blood sucking lawyers come running, you will lose all your ****. For most this will never happen, but for some, inevitable.
