who's got eldorado calipers on 14BFF? who doesn't?

Up here we cannot have a ball in the the receiver hitch which extends past the bumper (when not towing), $500 fine. I guess it puts nice holes in car bumpers, hoods, rads, etc. when they rear end you.

Exactly why mine stays on. That and i use it a lot.

But back on track, im blown away by the amount of guys not using an E Brake, and regarding an Ebrake as a glorified parking brake. That is NOT THE MAIN PURPOSE!

Its an Emergency Brake! If your hyd brake system fails.....and i'm sure we've all had issues with ours, that Ebrake it the only think you have left to stop your rig, short of downshifting.

I'm way more concerned about my life than what the law says.....and really the law is there for a reason.

Dude. Not with Caddy calipers.:doah:

The "e" in the Caddy caliper e-brake stands for "eventually", not for "emergency"...:D

Don't have any caddy calp experience, but lots of ebrakes suck. Look at the 2000+ 4 wheel disk chevy trucks...theres a goofy little brake shoe thing inside teh disk brake....

Regardless of how well it works though, it IS a mechanical brake for emergency use.

I can stop my rig using only the eventually brake :D but it stops alot more quickly than "eventually". :thumb:

I guess it's all in how much time a person spends to make sure IT WORKS. I spent a couple days playing with mine until i was satisfied.

Scott, did you do any kind of adjustment on the calipers before you installed them? Mine kinda holds, but eventually is a pretty good evaluation of how mine works so I'm wondering if I did something wrong. Id guess our rigs are similar weights so my problem can't just be that they aren't strong enough.

I've got the 3/4 ton front calipers... and i just bought jesse's driveline brake for my 205....

i did that originally but wont pass NJ inspection.... so thought about the driveline brake.. and they said they would not pass that either...
so i got caddy calipers in.... they dont hold great but that is because i never really set them up correctly.... but stopping is sooo much better now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! vs drums

The only "adjustment" on the Eldo calipers is that you HAVE to use the e-brake for them to "self adjust". If you fail to use them they can stop working altogether because of how the mechanism works inside. The trick to making them hold properly is the cable housing bracket location versus the amount of cable that protrudes from it. I'm using the factory cables from my rig but i cut the return or tension spring off of the cable and then had to play with where i located the fixed mounting tab for holding the housing.

On my rig the passenger side cable crosses over in front of the diff to the driver side then both cables attach to an adjustable bracket which i then "fine tuned" the adjustment of the cables.

My tsm calipers and brackets look identical to Scotts, although I'm using the older style intermediate cable that connects both sides. Are the Seville arms longer than the stock caddy arms? I'm pressing the foot lever as hard as I can and it doesn't quite hold mine from rolling back in the driveway.

To be honest i've NEVER even seen a lever from an Eldo caliper before so i couldn't say if these Seville/Fleetwood levers are longer or not.

Can you post some pics of your setup Scott? I bought mine from TSM and I would love to do something to make them work better. What are the Seville levers? This is my setup:

Silly me, didn't even notice. They basically look identical to mine so I wonder why mine don't work as well. I'm guessing it is my cables. They loop up high before going into the tab on the frame instead of more of a straight line like the stock setup. I think that is my problem. Also, I have the older style with the long wire cable that clamps to the cable that goes up to the foot lever. I think the newer style works better.

Does the ebrake mechanism use any or the hydraulic fluid when it's in use or us it all mechanical. I think I have air in my tear lines because I just took it for a drive and my rear discs were cold to the touch and the fronts burned my finger the second I touched them. If the ebrake is affected by air in the caliper, that could explain my problem. I even step on the brake hard when setting it and there's bit much difference.

So, is it still really hard to find all the arms and such?

I had the eldorado calipers with the ebrake on my old suburban and they were not good enough to stop it like the old drum brakes did so I ended up taking them out and putting on front calipers and they were 100 time better. The caddy calipers I had on there were new also.

Scott, the Seville and Fleetwood levers and such are different from the Eldorado ones.

I'm running the Seville/Fleetwoods on my Eldo calipers. I don't know if the levers are different but the springs definately are and the Eldos don't use the bracket like mine have for holding the spring.
