I dislike jeeps for the most part. if I were to come across an ancient one for a good price, I;d deffinately get it. other then that, most new jeep owners anymore don;t take thier cars off road ( yes, i call them cars) and whats with coming furnished to the roof in leather? I never liked my parents jeep. it was a 91 YJ wrangler, and sucked to high hell. the brakes were worse then useless on it, none of the gauges worked right, except for, thankfully the water temp, and occasionaly the oil pressure gauge. if you didn't remember to reset the trip odometer at the gas station, and lost count of how far you went, you would be walking ( as I have done several times,) when the stupid thing would run out of gas at anywhere from 1/8th to 1/2 a tank. parts for it were expensive, 1/2 japanese metric, 1/2 american standard/ 1/2 mexican metric, and 1/2 canadian metric.... ( they differ slighlty in that about 1/2 the bolts fit neither american, nor metric)
the main problem I have with the stupid things, are the drivers, including my sister.... she speeds, whips through traffic liek shes at NASCAR, holds hte belief that she owns the road, has 30,000 trinkets hanging from every available toggle, lever, switch, mirror, and hook blocking view in nearly every direction, and fits the cliche of 90% of all women jeep drivers. men, or boy as application may need to be adjusted, drivers are little better in those things, generaly spending more time talking about how cool thier jeep is, then actually offroading it. there are exceptions, such as my kid brother, who jacked his jeep XJ (2 door cherokee from 92) up, threw 31's under it, and proceeded to romp, and drive the hell out of it. he jumped that hting with me in the front seat, which was kinda unsettling to say the least. he had to get rid of it, due to getting 3 accidents, and 2 tickets in a 3 month period, and his insurance rates going from 160 a month to 495 a month....
sorr for all you people who like cute lil jeeps, but I deeply dislike them. to whoever said a stock heep could outgo a stock Blazer, chew on this: my father and I high centered on a roadside berm, while executing a U turn, and had to be wenched out. the berm was approx 7 inches tall, compsoed of soft dirt, with a hardpack core in it, and was more then enough to bring 2 corner wheels up off the ground, and make the rear locker useless. ( the locker was the only mod at that point... it was back on stock sized tires) I;ve done far tougher crap in my C20 pickup, with a bad clutch, and broken engine mounts then that, and only had it stuck once ( middle of a gravel bar, in a dry wash in AZ, and only cause some chode in a heep cut me off, forcing me to lose momentum, and sink into the pea sized gravel to the rear axle housing)
besides, everyone moves out of my way on the freeway for either of my burbs, no one moves for a jeep
