Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

ok, no offense, but if you have only 1500 in your truck then you have paid up the ass on nothing. Just being a smart ass though, I know what your saying.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Yes i agree but now i have exhausted all my "cheap" parts and have to buy others while im at college. All the junk yards are getting really picked over by me lately and shipping really kills the good deals on stuff most of the time.
On another note, Dana 44's can live pertty well if you learn how to drive with them. The president of my club runs 38's with a locker in his 44 front. He has tosted 3 shafts in 4 years and now runs moser shafts. He just got back from Moab yesterday and he had a ball. He broke both driveshafts while there and had no problems with the 44 front surprizingly. This has renewed my faith in my open 10 bolt front now.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Just recently have I started to dump some serious cash into my truck. After I pay my bills the majority of what's left over goes to the truck. It's not uncommon for me to spend between $500 to $1000 on my truck every few weeks. I have basically rebuilt my truck doing this. I think the only thing original on my truck is the frame and axles.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

I hear this alot people say they can't afford a D60, then they go out and pay alot of money on axle shafts, (last time I checked moly shafts for a 44 are not cheap), and other things when that money could score them a D60, The axles are out there it just requires patience, and some looking, I have found three in the past 2 months for less than 900 dollars. And one D60 3 months ago for 500 that included a NP-205, TH-400, and 14 bolt. Look in your rural communities find the old farms look for old trucks under the grass and they'll be there. Jesse

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

noone seems to flinch at $1000 for a stereo system though

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

I will not spend the cash to get alloy shafts, way too much money to put into a 44. Someday I hope to save the money for a d-60, but I am on a like $200 a month truck budget, so It will be a long way off.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Jesse, I found my D60 for $550 in a junkyard in south Alabama. I t was out of a military K30 with 4.56 gears and open diff. The guy wanted almost as much for the matching 14FF as he did for the front D60. The axle was in almost perfect condition. I replaced 3 grease zerks, straightened the tierod where it got bent from a forklift, repacked wheel bearings, added a Lock-Right, and refilled with gear dope. So ya'll see a good deal can be found if you look in the right places.
