The narrower rim forces the sidewall against the bead more

I've always ran the rims 3-4" narrower than the spec tread width. Even at 8psi, never lost a tire without bead locks

Maybe, but looking is how you find deals. I had my 6 lug wheels/35s listed all of 15 minutes before I got a call. And the price was favorable to me

Looking is good. Bounces ideas off of us. Tell us how much stuff is, too

What do you plan on doing with this truck when youre done?
Street rig, mall crawler, rock rig?
 
For the next few years it's definitely gonna be more street than anything, I'm barely getting into the game so I have a lot to learn. I bought he truck to enjoy with my family on fishing and camping trips. I know nothing about crawling, I was more of a racer before.

I don't have a ton of money or time to throw at this thing as I have 2 young kids, but I work on it at night for a few hours when I can

I know some may hate the wide tires but I am liking this look a lot

Everyone hates the Thornbirds, but I think they are a cool looking tire. They ride like sh!t, and you will probably have problems with them (random flats from the casing coming apart), but if they are dirt cheap on CL then why not run them for awhile? Not sure what size those are, but if they come with the wheels and they have some tread on them I still wouldn't go over $250-$300 for the set including the wheels. If the guy is asking $400-$600 then pass for sure.

I had some Thornbirds when they first came out and they looked really cool. It was on my daily driver, and I made them work for a couple of years, but was VERY glad when I got rid of them. On an occasional driver they might be OK. They are "bias belted", so they don't flat spot as bad, but the ride ain't great. I've been running Boggers on my K5 (mall crawler) and I won't do those again either, but the Tbirds actually roll a little smoother than the Boggers.
 
The thorn birds are going for 200, which I don't think is bad at all, I'm in it for more of the rims not really the tires, they look to be atleast a 15x10 wheel, the steelies are only 15/7 and he's asking 400 so I'll probably pass on those
 
Good call. Agree about the thornbirds though. Not a great tire

$200 including the wheels (assuming they are 15x10) is pretty good deal if the wheels are in decent shape and there is at least some tread left on the tire. Those steelies are nice looking, but that is pretty pricey IMO.

Be prepared if the u bolts splay out some the spring plate sometimes doesn't slip on, I use a big giant pair of channellocks to squeeze the ends together just to get the plate started then it'll slide on. Also disconnect your anti sway bar from the axle before you try bolting up the axle to the spring. Makes it a lot easier to line up the u bolts.

Interesting. I didn't wind up having any issues when I left my swaybar on. :dunno:

Channel locks have been needed a few times, though.
