Re: why SHOULDN\'T i run 44\'s??? Any reasons?

I remember 4 years ago...I was content with 31" tires on everything I owned. But now, things just keep going higher and higher. If I had to get rid of everything except one vehicle, Id keep what we refer to now as the "little Crew Cab". It has a 6" lift with 35" BFG M/T's. Tall enough to still look fairly big, yet I can still haul with it and tow with it as I always am doing.

It was completely "illogical" and impractical to buy the Big Crew Cab from my friend and then come up with the idea of lifting it 6" higher and adding 44" tires. It's a truck that gets used only for "fun" (no towing or hauling, although I did tow with it last year a few times). From now on, it will be strictly for looks and for off-road use.

I just wanted something to take kids around and drive through the local parade with and to drive through the mud bogs with. I figured the Crew Cab would be good to go that high since the long wheel base should help it to be less "tippy" even with 15" of overall lift.

Alot of it is just going for the "look" of it...being one of the biggest trucks around (although I'm not a show off...at least not trying to be).

I'm only worried about breaking things with the 44's on the truck. Even the 40's were hard enough on steering components, and when my friend owned it and had the 39.5" Boggers on it, he snapped "two" of those 4spd-to-205 coupler sleeves. It's also been through 3-4 clutches in the past 4 years.

Oh yeah magazines suck. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Thats why there are so many and they have all that useless information in them. After all what the hell do experts know? As far as my attitude? I guess if people can't handle what they dish out they shouldn't put there foot in their mouth.

I mean excuse the hell out of me for defending myself after being called a wanker and a jackass. I'm not here for a popularity contest I'm here because of common interest. In other words K5's.

Well nobody can say I didn't try... Dude, I subscribed to the magazines for 10 years, all of them. WHen you read through them and already know most of what they're talking about, and find yourself thinking thinking "Well there's an easier way to do that" and such, then you'll decide they suck too. All of the information in magazines is available on the internet, and there is alot more of it. This BBS has been 100 times more valuable to me as an information resource than any magazine ever has, but you'll probably never know that since you're a self-righteous ass; if your attituce doesn't change real quick you probably will never feel all that welcomed.

I was wondering how much lift I would need to clear 66" firestones? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

I believe you can do a search or pm Jeff427 about Mudzilla. I think he's only running 48 or 50" though.

Re: why SHOULDN\'T i run 44\'s??? Any reasons?

I never said the mags didn't have good information in them. And I didn't say they don't have some good rigs pictured. I can't complain about the mags too much considering mine can be found on average once a month in Four Wheeler, if not more often (I am SO lucky).

What I said is look at most of the mags cover rigs (4WOR included). Most of them are seldom off-road. Yeah, they often have some good information in them. But it doesn't always apply to 90% of us. So we take it as a rule of thumb and a guide book, but not a rule book or the bible.

If you want to see what works, get out and wheel. See what others in your area are using and running. Don't rely on what you read in a mag as gospel. It is just a magazine. Forums like this are real life. Real life is where pride, money, capabilities, and real offroading all come together. Not a bunch of pretty pictures, sponsors, and bottomless checkbooks.

So, anyway, I think you need to check your comments and hold your tongue a little. No one said you were new to wheeling, we said you were new to this site. If you want to get any help from your fellow CK5ers, learn to respect the site, not abuse it or use it as your soap box.

well I don't think mags suck there just aimed at a differrent skilll level of enthuist but one thing I noticed is that there getting to be just advertisment for different companys " we ordered a dana 60 with arb locker and Blah blah blah from store X for $10000 " no good cheap tech stories this sight is a lot better/forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

Re: why SHOULDN\'T i run 44\'s??? Any reasons?

Shaggy you can kiss my [censored] ass. I don't come to this board for you or any other member to tell me anything. The mags are there for people who don't go around thinking they are experts. Just because you don't read them doesn't mean you can't learn anything from them. When you think you know it all and then have the audacity (is that too big a word for you?) to call me self righteous then its obvious your the one with the attitude problem.

Ban me for all I care, I can go to many other boards without some guy being up my ass. You don't know me from Adam so knock off your two year old name calling.

And the rest of you telling me to hold my tongue after being called names? Just like board members to stick by their own even when they are wrong!

Re: why SHOULDN\'T i run 44\'s??? Any reasons?

I love the one done last year about the comparison of three different suspension setups on a late model IFS suburban I think it was. They tested it stock height with I believe stock or slightly taller than stock tires. Then they added a Fabtech lift and some taller tires. Then they swapped in a solid axle.

Their conclusion was a solid axle in this rig was the way to go. Oh yeah, so many people that have IFS can really afford to just swap in a solid axle! Such an apples to apples comparison. If they were to use it to do an apples to apples comparison of different suspension setups in general (i.e. solid axle is better for offroad than IFS), that would have been one thing. But they determined that in that vehicle the solid axle was the way to go. I am sure so many readers went right home and ordered their solid axle swaps!

And when was the last time anyone saw someone in a magazine actually do their own work? Who would you listen to more? A journalist? Or someone that lives by the motto of "Built Not Bought"?
