will I have a noticeable loss of power with manifolds?

I have a crate zz4 running long tube headers and hate them. They are soooo annoying. Changing the plugs is a pain, they always leak at the collector, they hit the rear shackles and rattle all the time.

Anyways.. Will I have a horrible decrease in power with some manifolds? I was planning on opening them up to match the gasket size and getting them pretty smooth on the inside with the dremel.

You won't notice much with a stock motor, try to get some rams head manifolds that's what I run on my 75 with a 383. IMO headers are loud, leak prone, hot, shackle rubbing, annoying pos. Just my opinion, lot's of guys here run them and are very happy,me not so much.

gm performance crate zz4. ~400 hp. Not exactly stock.

do you have a link for where you got those? And how much? I'm trying to be cheap. If not manifolds I'm going with some shorty's.

Ok,not exactly stock motor I run either. rams head manifolds worked out very well for me.I have no ideas what my hp #'s are,I do know I suffered no loss of torque or "top End" after switching from flowtech headers to cast iron ram's head manifolds,I "gasket matched" them even though I was told it was not necessary and they work great. Good luck!

sounds good to me! I'll run some polished stockers for a while and then look into those. I also would really like something quieter since I don't have cats on my truck.

I don't have cats either, rams head manifolds are found on old chevy musclecars either in 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" IIRC. The manifolds on my truck are the less desirable 2 1/4" but still flow well, they are off a older corvette with a small block.

well I have some manifolds off of a 91 suburban so I think they are 2.5

I'm sure they will work fine, the "ram's head" manifolds are center dump shouldn't matter much still a decent design and less annoying header issues.

ohhhh. Gotcha. Yea I would rather have the rear ones because I could use the stock downtube and bend and then weld it up to what I already have.

shorty headers for 88-95 vary easy to find. better gasket style at the flanges and vary min frame clearence on the driver side rail top. if non chrome then grind the o2 sensor bung down and weld shut. no grinding then prob. looks like a lot of frame clearence but its not. the frame dips out for clearence there anyways. lost mabye 1/4" of overall width.

flat flange on the outlets. at 2.5" pipe size. then the gasket was real easy to figure out. bbc heat riser exaust manifold gasket. then i had friend make me 2 flanges from 3/8 plate on a flow jet were he worked with the gasket as a template. will work perfect. 2.5" pipe even will fit snug up in the hole for the flange. so weld it up and bolt on and go to my flowmaster 2.5" collector ypipe kit to the 3" outlet to the flowmaster 3" muffler and pipe out the tail.

edelbrock ebay specials.

You will notice a fairly big difference going from a header to a stock manifold on that engine. I run the same style header as sweetk30 but mine are Flowtech shorties with the ball flange for the Y-pipe. I used my angle grinder with a flap disk to remove a little less than 1/4" from the driver side top frame rail and used an oil drain plug in the 02 sensor hole then cut the head of the plug off to make more clearance.

other than the grinder n ball socket. you sure you didnt steel my headers 4x4high ? :haha:thats the same story basicly . i got the big metric drain plug in the 02 hole and ground off the head.

Well, considering I did this 13 years ago I doubt I "stole" your idea. When my last blazer got stolen and I bought my current blazer I then bought another set of shorties and installed them on it as well. Only difference is that my first blazer had Gibson headers and this time they are Flowtechs because the price of Gibson headers went up considerably in price. :D
