Will it fit

I tried out the geardrive version but it was pretty noisy although it'll never strech like a chain will.

How hard is setting backlash on a gear driven door?

I've heard aircraft grease is model specific, so which would be better, Cessna grease or Boeing 767 grease?

[/ QUOTE ]

Now thats a good question...
I could be wrong here but i think basically what it all boils down to is how many people would be using that garage door.. If were talking like 4 or 5 then the cessna grease should do... If you're planning on having lots of people use that garage door, I'd invest in some of that Boeing 767 grease... something that should be rated for hundreds of people so that should be plenty good.. Perhaps overkill.
But you are better safe than sorry.
Might want to check into the price difference between the two. Could be drastically more expensive for the Boeing grease.

Does someone sell lower gear sets so I can get more torque?

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know about gear sets but i think they do make mini gear reduction garage door motors.

Are you thinking about doing this swap?

I see you've failed to address the exterior issues of garages. I highly recommend using cedar siding- it lasts forever in bothe wet and dry climates.

But just how flame- retardant is that?

Yup. Should I invest in Eastern Asian metric tools?

Can you paint this cedar siding or do you just leave it plain for the more natural look?

I feel Northern California Old Growth Redwood would be a better choice.

That might just be a wise investment. Lord knows i have gotten my moneys worth out of my Eastern Asian metric tools set. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Actually, depending on the aestheitics of the surrounding structures, you have three options:

1. You can paint it with an exterior latex, although by doing this you hide the true beauty of the cedar.

2. You can stain it with either a clear or colored stain. Colored stain helps you match it to your color scheme but clear or tinted stain really brings out the grain of the wood.

3. You can smear airplane grease all over it for a durable yet flowing finish.
