Will it hold!?? Or am I going to kill nuns!??

In the time we have had the truck since 02 I have needed the spare twice. And I was glad I had it both times.

I think with checking it every few months it will be safe enough...the cable still looks nice new. Just twisted up at the end that would make it bind in the housing. I don't want to reinvent the way it is. I have to take it down often enough to clean the dirt out of the rim. Like Paul and Bob said they can get crusty.

I did try welding the Stainless cable with my Mig on a price of scrap... it holds on. Cool!

I’m soaking the rest of the housing in my homemade evapo rust mix for a few days.

Should work out ok I think.

The tack weld idea was a second thing to help keep the wire from pulling thru....I had a tire come off going down the road once. Killed a Mazda RX-7. It had zero nuns in it.

Yeah I drilled though the housing after the cable lock and will run the cable through the hole into the void of the hub and weld a nut to the end of the cable...a bit extra holding.

I was under the impression nuns rode only in buses!? :haha:

mine fell off the 02 Tahoe at some point. I noticed the trailer light receptacle was bent up, looked under the truck and noticed the cable was snapped. So it obviously fell off, kicked up and bent the receptacle. Wife had no clue, never heard anything.....shocking I know.

Yes I replaced it and don’t remember it costing half of what you said it does. I do remember the dealer making a comment that they sell a lot of the cables. That was ten years ago, been fine ever since.

That cable is not easy to change, Not on the one that came with my truck anyways,I had to grind off the rivets that hold housing together, and will have to bolt it back together.
But yeah 300.00 is stupid for what it is!?
Canadians always get screwed.... dry!

I didn’t deal with any of that. In fact it was easy enough that I can’t remember all the details.
