I was working on my bumper this weekend grafting the winch mounting plate I got with the Warn 8274 for 150 bucks on to my bumper I built a while back. this winch mount made it easy to see how I wanted to do it. its not done but I took a few pics of fabbing up a few pieces just for fun.

bending 1/4 cold rolled plate steel is easy with a little muscle and leverage, I always say leverage is my friend.

First I needed to know what angle I needed to bend to, then I made a card board template, transfered that to my steel, cut it out, left it a little long just in case then marked my bend points then went to work. cut the extra length off, check the fit, fine tuned the piece on the disc grinder, checked the fit again, gaps look good, welded it up.

follow more posts for the rest of the pics.

Nice! I need to reattach my front bumper and beef it up a little, I like the way yours is done. :waytogo:

P.S. You have very clean/well manicured hands... :haha:

i see you live in Lomita... I live in Torrance. Do you have other pics of your truck (from angles and sides)? i'd like to see how your bumper looks on the truck. BTW: it looks nice and frickin' huge.

here is what I have as far as extra pics of the burb, I posted a thread of when I first bent it up, its my first bumper I built, will try and find the thread and post the link.

your blazer looks familiar, do you work at Home Depot in San Pedro? and did someone leave a note on your windshield a while ago about ck5.com?

thank you, and thank you! I know, I know, I have sissy hands now. I dont have time to work on my junk like I used to. my hands stay very clean at work. thats cause I"m not a machinist any more. atleast not for a living. I have to wear nitrile gloves at work, not for my protection but for the parts I work with. I work in a tempature and humidity controlled HUGE room everyday. I build satalites. my title is SMT, Spacecraft Mechanical Technican. I put stuff together that cost INCREDIBLE AMOUNTS OF MONEY!! we are talking millions and millions kind of money.

Looks beefy and would not flinch at a deer. Many-a-truck up here show deer scars. I want a beefy bumper. Good work!

More progress with my bumper. I actually had it powder coated today so it's done. I will have pics up this weekend once it's back on my burb. I had it coated White to match my burb. Here are some updated pics of the fab work.

Where do those lower tubes connect to the frame. How close are they to the leaves?

They go right to the frame with an adapter. It's about 4 inches above the spring right near the eye. I highly doubt the spring will contact the tube at full stuff. When I get it on I will take better pics of that area and the adapters. I felt it need to mount to more then just the frame horns for strength. I felt a side hit without side support might bend the side of the bumper so I went with the support right to the frame. The bumper slides straight in from the front of the truck. Thats why the adapters are angled. They meet face to face when it's fully seated against the body buckets.

Nice!! Somebody spent some time behind a welding helmet. Nice Beads.

Thanks man, I am such a hit and miss welder. I will say welding around tube is still a beotch for me. Sometimes I do good and other times it looks like crap :doah:. Welding straight is easy.
