WIX and NAPA GOLD

We had Subaru sending out a new updated oil filter with "swedged"o rings. If we turned the new filters upside down, almost all of the o rings fell out. Talked to supplying dealer and they took all of em back. Sent two new cases that were only slight better. They swear that they had no problems with theirs. Now just recently issued totally new part numbers and filters are entirely different with marginal gasket retention. You'd think the quality filter manufacturers would be busy making great parts, but not really looking like corporate wants to pay for it in the ever lasting thirst for greed / $$$$$$$$$.

I installed an Amsoil filter this weekend and it only says it's made in the USA and nothing about being made by anyone else. Thinking they might have their own manufacturing facility.

Little bit off topic , but we have a issue at work aka dodge dealer, with maf sensors on the 6.7 Cummins bad ones are made in Germany , the good ones we are swapping them out to are made in china. Go figure.

Aside from avoiding products made in China for lots of good moral and political reasons, they can make good stuff. It comes down to the company using them doing a diligent QA work.

There was a manufacturer of LED drivers for signs that had moved manufacturing to China and then had a rash of failures. It got to where someone would call needing service on a new sign and we knew it was a failure of the power supply without even needing to look. They were probably supplying 75% of the market at that time.

They were able to clean up their act and started offering a longer parts AND labor warranty to get customers back. Their solution was to have a QA guy from the US there at the facility in China to oversee the QA in the factory.

I just hope these other long trusted auto parts brands are doing the same.

Bet they were supplying the drivers and chips for an LED wall I installed last year. 270 panels and last I heard 175 of them had to be fixed or replaced for various issues. It was a pain in the ass.

They ended up getting absorbed by another LED supplier that we loathe.

There is so much LED junk coming out of China. I get several emails a week from some random Chinese manufacturer hocking their wares. I couldn't believe the number of them at the trade show we went to last year.

All of the video wall manufacturers come from China and generally just from one or two factories. Sucks big time not just because of the qc but the shipping times. Unless you want to drop $15-20k on air freight, it’s 10-12 weeks by a literal slow boat from China.

And the ACdelco Ultraguard gold for my 6.0 gas said Made in USA.

Well the AcDelco crap bit me today. Brand new alternator for my 4Runner, not reman, after about 5mins of run time started to whine and the case started smoking. It’s physically to hot to touch. Ordered it from Rockauto. Guess we’ll see how this goes. Can’t find a sticker that says where it was made but it does have an acdelco sticker and serial number on it.

That sucks, but this is an oil filter thread!
