WL: 1988 V10 Suburban

I wish I would have had someone to help me. It would have been a lot easier. Especially moving that heavy sombitch around.

I ended up putting new calipers on it. I couldn't get the bleeders out without heating them up with the torch. So I got the old bleeders out, and went to town to get new bleeders, brake hoses, and banjo bolts. Was having a hard time at NAPA finding the correct parts when I found that I could purchase new loaded calipers for $42 a piece. So I went that route.

When I took it on its first test drive (into town and back, twenty miles) it drove fine. No death wobble at all. Then I drove it to Lindsay Tuesday, and it about threw me out of the truck it death wobbled so badly. So I ordered a new steering stabilizer and threw it on over in Lindsay. It "fixed" the death wobble so far. I broke one of the Dana 60 lockouts covers when I took it off. It has the three tangs on the cover that stick into the actual lockout mechanism. I broke those off. Are they necessary? The Dana 44/10 bolt lockouts don't have them. It's not a big deal, but I don't feel like dropping another $200 on lockouts for this axle.

Do you run stock length shocks still or did you have to go longer with the 2" of lift?

I am still running stock length shocks. I am even running quad shocks on the front axle yet. This thing is not a very serious off road rig.

Mine won't be either. At least not any time soon. Just wonder how much down travel I'd lose before I needed longer shocks. I'm thinking of doing an AAL in the rear sense I haul tools and burb a$$ ends are heavy by nature with 40 gallons of fuel in em

I have had no problems with the 2" blocks in the rear of mine. If anything, they restored it back to factory height. I pull with mine pretty regularly.

I swapped on the 2009 K2500 wheels I got from my brother in law today. They look kind of funny on there with the little 265/70R17 tires on them. I'll have to get the 315/70R17's on there later this week hopefully.

Still haven't touched this. The weather here has sucked, and I keep driving that '89 V10 GMC Suburban. How do people put up with automatic transmissions all the time??? I remember why I hate them so much......

Installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It still ran like ****, but I also installed a fuel pressure gauge at the same time, an as I suspected, the pump was done. It could only produce 4 psi with the regulator maxed out. So I installed a new fuel pump and it now reads 13 psi. Much better.

I also swapped the 315/70R17 BFG H2 takeoffs onto my new (to me) rims. Cut out the center section of a set of center caps for the front while I was at it.

The other thing I did was remove the 2" lift blocks from the rear and install the 3" blocks I got from Nvrenuf. The 2" blocks were just a little too short after I installed the Dana 60 in the front. The 3" blocks leveled it out.

Here are some pics.

Safety first.

Using a die to clean the rust out of the threads makes them come apart much easier.

I did not use quite as fancy of tooling as Mike did....

The Dana 60 hubs still stick out a ways.

...and here is how it sits now.

I really need some new shocks for the lift. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a CHEAP shock? I am not buying Bilsteins or the like. I have the dual front shock option, and would like to run just single shocks up front in the optional shock location.

Not really. A little here and there, but owning a bar and having a steady girlfriend makes this kind of obsolete. Now the heater core is starting to leak. Have honestly thought about cutting it up.
