WL: 1990 K5 (California to Nebraska on 38" rubber. (WARNING: Lots of Pics))

Yeah, are you?

I'm almost done. Crushed rear shock replaced. It wouldn't even move after I got it off, lol. Did a test run on my new .330" wall driveshaft the other day. Works good up to 55 then a bit of vibration but not bad for an un-balanced home welded job. I'll drive down and back on the stock one and switch there.

Got my new springs on the front but been battling hardware on the front axle. PO had changed from studs on the passenger side to two U-bolts, one of which was drilled through the flange on the bottom of the diff for the inner one. I think he had to spread the u-bolt quite a bit to get it on. As I had ordered new grade 8 U-bolts from Kert today I didn't think I could bend them, lol. This was after I had ordered them and hadn't looked at how he had installed them. Had to modify what was a driver's side spring plate to a passenger side spring plate to accommodate the studs last night because I'm a cheap azz and didn't want to pay $40 for a new one with shipping. I'm already going to not use one of the casting side u-bolts that I bought from Kert. Minor stuff but my simple spring swap was already adding up to more $ than I planned.

You can do it without a spreader.

Martin

That may be so, but the spreader comes attached to John who actually has a clue as opposed to me. And, I think he wanted to try it out before he did his 5.38's.

So, what's up? You guys ever gonna throw out a date other than May sometime? Or is this another one of those "waiting on John" things....

Heck, I'd drive down for the day if you want to go sometime. I'm supposed to pick up my 260Z this weekend but if he can't do it I'll run down Saturday early, wheel for the day and come home that night. I'll know tomorrow. My truck is together, just no locker but that's not a show stopper.

I can help with the locker! I didn't use a case spreader when I did mine. You bought a lockright, right?

It appears to be. Pics in my thread. It was used. It came with an open carrier because I have an LSD now.

I pulled the front spring out from the drivers side and drove out my factory bushings. Ordered some new greasable poly bushings from ORD. I think my frame may be bent where it necks up in front of the cab. My front shackles are on an angle pointing in. Anyone ever done that?

Martin

I ordered new bushing for my 52" springs on the front of my Blazer. The factory ones were shot, and annoyingly loud. I also ordered longer u-bolts for the drivers side of the Dana 60, as the ones I was using were just a shade to short.

I had also found some ORD FUSH's for sale on Facebook by chance. They were like new, and cheap so I bought them. I forgot that when I bought them, they came without the hardware. Had I been thinking, I would have bought new hardware from ORD when I bought the u-bolts and bushings. I don't have the correct size here, so I am at a stand still till tomorrow at least. Oh well.

I thought while I was doing the FUSH's, I should move them forward, as mine were still in the stock position. I never noticed anything bad about the ride or performance with the bad shackle angle I had, but I am taking everyone's word for it that a better shackle angle helps.

I ran out of parts, so I am at a standstill, but I am out in the milk barn, and it's raining like a sumbitch. Therefore I thought I would do some more painting while I was waiting out the storm. Figured I would cover up the bare metal on the frame. This keeps up, I might have to put fresh fenders on the damn thing!

Martin

Whatever came with the FUSH's. I'll have to compare it to what was on there to see if it is longer or not.

Martin

With the FUSH relocated I am pretty sure you'll need longer, or the spring will hit the frame.
