Wonder why trails get closed???

If it is BLM land, don't you own it as well as every other American?

National collectivism!! :saweet: That's what our founders intended!

But really, if we all owned it, we could all do with it what we wished with it. That is sort of an important aspect of property. So in reality, feel good sayings like "it belongs to all of us" and such, are just meaningless gestures meant to impart a disingenuous sense of ownership. We don't own it. The state owns it.

If it is public land and open for ORVs by the state, county and city, then what makes it a no use area? I'm just wondering.

Where did I say it was a no use area? There are areas that are considered "open recreation Area's" meaning drive or ride where ever you want in a designated area, which 5 mile pass is which is just a few miles away. The area this took place is BLM land and Rattlesnake and Constrictor are designated trails meaning they can be traveled by the public, straying from these trails is not.

With that said even in open areas one should stay on established trails. If any of you aren't aware H.R. 1925 is potential threat to our Utah trails, it proposes the closure of 9 million acres of land. Bills like this usually get there start from lands not being used correctly. I enjoy our sport and hope it's still around for my kids when they are older as well as their kids, sure we'll always have parks but I'd still like to wheel in the open!!

And now it's being taken from us:doah:

I cant tell if you sensed the sarcasm, so Ill just clear things up. National collectivism is actually the opposite of what the founders intended. Collectivism is more or less a synonym for socialism.

And now it's being taken from us:doah:

Since we're now into nitpicking and fine print :D:

Nope, not really. If the anti-access groups get their way, you just can't use a mechanized device any longer in order to access the land...

I know:D just watch next thing we know the Redrock Wilderness act will be ammended to show that the land will be called Obamaland:eek1:

I never understood people freaking out over going "off trail". As long as your not tearing down trees in protected land whats the big deal?

And for those that say "its ammunition for the naturist groups" so what?? Theyre wacky and over exaggerate everything and its gonna be like that forever.

So you declare yourself ignorant about what's at stake here. That's fine, you're in New Jersey....

I, for one, want to go running these trails out West, and I want to do it for a while longer. There are several organizations trying to fight proposed closures. Their consensus is to try and demonstrate that there is such a thing as 'responsible motorized recreation'. Incidents that go against that are not good for the overall cause.

Anyone who feels that this strategy is too weak and defeatist is welcome to write to e.g. the Blue Ribbon Coalition in order to share your great ideas how to stop the anti-access groups...

So again I ask, who or what makes the area that this guy was driving in no use? Who or what makes straying from these trails illegal?

What is BLM?

The other side

I am Scott Moulding first off there was an old mining road leading down to the area the picture was taken so I wouldn't call that "blazin my own trail". I was not drunk. I never heard anyone come up to me and tell me that wasn't a trail and I shouldn't be down there. If you've never been to 5 mile pass it is an old abandoned mining area so there are roads everywhere. In the future I would hope that if someone had a problem with me they would come up and talk to me personally. I want to say thanks to everyone who waited to hear my side of the story before throwing me under the bus, and my truck does not leak any oil.

I never heard a word from him about that. I talk to someone (I think it was his dad) he was riding with afterwards and they never said anything to me.

Yeah I put a cummins 12 valve in it. I can post some pictures of it if you want to see it.
