Would anyone be interested in CARC 383 green spray-on bed liner material?

So how would I go about ordering this in 686 tan? And how much would do you think it would take to do a blazer tub? Floors, "bedsides", and tailgate?

rr

are there any other colors you can match? do you have any pics of the exterior of a blazer done? i think it would be a great idea im just not sure how it would look

This will be the final step in my build. I Was planning on going with Durabak, but I would rather stick with someone on the board if I can... a more privately owned kind of place.

I would be coating the outside of my K5. Color, I am not set yet. But, right now it would be as bright of a red as I can get. Or as close to Kawasaki lime green as I can get.

Something you can help out with I assume?

Hey man, send me a PM, email me at [email protected], or call me at 919-906-4688.

I'm really sorry I missed this. I got really busy with other stuff and I totally forgot about this thread.

Was just thinkin about this yesterday. Damnit i'm gonna have to just give in one day and quit being a friggin cheapskate.

Still interested so i stay subscribed :doah:

Oh, and to answer the questions about color matching - WE CAN DO ANYTHING! :D

I can color match any color by paint code, or if you have a large enough sample I have a local place that can get me a color match on the tint for you. :D

We also have confirmation that the Desert Tan is the correct color match for military specs. I experimented a bit with the flattening agent, but it doesn't get it down to a completely flat look. It's more of a satin look, although it is still within federal specs for sheen.

I'm hoping to get something on the 383 OD in the next few weeks so I can start offering this to you guys.

This might help as to color. I found this a while back and posted it.

The guy who owns it is Paul Pappas of Linden, Mi. He won Best of Show Modern: 1985 Chevy M1009 CUCV at the 1st Annual Silver Lake Sand Dunes Apple Festival in Hart, Michigan 49420

They are having another one on Sept 14 &15, 2007

This is what I know about WWII OD paint!

This the production paint on vehicles that were produced and delivered to the US Military in WWII.

Willys and Ford both used the same color OD paint, #319, throughout the entire production from 1941 to 1945. Documentation in the National Archives, Willys Motors, GMC, White, Mack and Ford data and QMC/ORD publications proves that only one color was used in production. "Lusterless Olive Drab" was the color used on WWII production vehicles; Jeeps, Dodges, Chevy’s, GMCs, Halftracks, Armored Cars, Tanks, etc.

Lusterless paint is somewhere between a Flat paint and a Semi-Gloss paint.
Flat Olive Drab paint actually attracts and holds dirt, hand prints, stains, etc.
Factory WW II Jeep paint was an enamel, although lacquer was a very commonly found type of ‘army surplus’ OD paint after the war.
Field paint was "gasoline soluble", meaning, it came in a concentrated form, and was to be mixed with gasoline to thin and then be applied.
In post-war paint, the 1st digit denotes the gloss factor of the paint. 2 = Flat. 3 = Lusterless. 4 = Gloss
#23070 is a post 1945 to mid-1950's Flat Olive Drab. It is a camouflage Green
#33070 is a post 1945 Semi gloss Olive Drab, and it is not the same as WW II Lusterless Olive Drab.
#33070 is somewhat close to WWII, but it is too gray to be a match for WW II Lusterless Olive Drab.
#33070 - 1941-43 (Early WW11 Darker OD) - FALSE!
#319 - 1944-45 (Late WW11 Lighter OD) - FALSE!
#24087 is Mid 1950's to Post Vietnam Flat Olive Drab
#34087 is Mid 1950's to Post Vietnam lusterless Olive Drab

Olive Drab paint is still available on the web and from dealers; however, there is currently no commercially available paint that is 100% the correct color for WWII Lusterless Olive Drab. Some paint vendors will also tell you that Olive Drab #34087 is the same as WWII Lusterless Olive Drab, but this too is incorrect. #34087 is a post-war color paint and although close, it is not the same color as the WWII #319 paint. Even so, 99% of WWII Jeep restorers paint their jeeps a #34087 Lusterless Olive Drab (Semi Gloss), because; it is pretty close to WWII #319; and because it is more water & stain repellent than #24087 Flat OD.

Most paint shops will be able to either darken or lighten it for you.

Metrodps, thanks man!

BTW, the WWII OD is a different shade than the 383OD on the CUCVs, right?

I know the OD in the Vietnam era was different than the 383 OD, but don't know if the WWII is the same.

WWII OD green is different. CARC green is it's own color, and more green really.

Eh, just making sure you and he knew the difference. You'd be surprised how many times folks have asked me why Big Ugly is so green and not olive drab.

"Because this isn't from WWII."

So the Lusterless Green 340904 is the 383 OD that I'm trying to get, right?

Yes. It isn't really Olive Drab. This is actually a different color. The Marine Corps painted some of their vehicles in a different, ODish color actually but it is not Lusterless Green 340904.

But it is the correct green color for the CUCVs and the common Army vehicles, right?

When I sprayed a batch of the federal spec 383OD code, the color was off. I checked it against a bunch of different vehicles on about 3 different bases and they were all off.

Yeah, that is the color. Just don't call it OD.

Were they older paint jobs on the vehicles? It fades in the sun after a while.

Gotcha. I'll go see if I can get some tint this afternoon. I'll try and spray a batch tonight and post up the results.

Some of the vehicles were old, some new. All didn't match. :doah:
