What year did GM start offering them? IIRC they were also called triptometers. Did the top speed, 85mph, stay the same?

Thanks.

I'm really interested to know this fact as well. Everything i've come up with so far leads me to believe that 1989 was the first year (for blazer anyway). Jeff, does the "88" you bought have the trip odometer?

Yes, the 88 I have DOES have the trip odometer, but the 86 parts rig I have does not have it. Thats why I'm guessing 88 was the first year but could be 87.

I can confirm that 1988 was indeed the first year of the trip odometer.

Not to hi-jack, but does anyone have an extra knob that goes on the reset shaft? When I got my 89 Burb it was gone.

Thanks,
Jake

Well, hi-jack or not, good question! Mine's broken off too, I just have the metal pin sticking out. I can still turn it alright, it's just annoying. For reference, here's a good pic of how it's supposed to look:

I think I'm going to end up with a mess:rolleyes: Have a tach and small fuel gauge, want Speedometer w/ trip and 100mph or above. I figure I'll hardwire some of the gauges to toss all of this in a diesel. Might be sticky;)

As far as i know there is no speedo that goes to 0-100 mph that has a trip odometer. All the trip odometer speedo's i've seen are 0-85 mph.

I'm pretty sure though that a speedo shop can take a 0-100 mph speedo and cut the area out for the trip odometer and then calibrate the speedo to be accurate up to 100 mph. This is what i'm going to see about having done when i have my speedo head rebuilt.
