Yep. It's a Binder

Here is my Binder. 1962 Scout 80 with a 152 slant 4, 3 speed T-90, Dana 18 T-case, Dana 27 axles.

Here is what I plan on putting in it someday.

It's an Isuzu diesel. I got it for a song and a dance. I figured it would be easy to turbo charge as you can see by the exit on the exhaust manifold. I figured the diesel would be a good fit seeing as it would be cheap on fuel and there is just no way in hell a V8 will fit in an 80 model with out completely building an entirely new firewall. The D-27 axles will most likely be upgraded to D44's out of a Scout 2 model. Just need to find a 5 speed Isuzu out of an old diesel Trooper to get the project going. I'm thinking Cat yellow with black accents on the engine should look pretty cool in the engine bay.

for the love of god dont trim it lift it . save the sheet metal. :doah:

No worries. I am one of the biggest advocates for saving good sheetmetal. I have a good front clip and box. The one now is not rusty, but beat to ****.

As for suspension that'll have to wait till spring gotta assemble parts for a Chevy/ Whatever is gonna work to get it up a little.

Sweet. my International friend has one of the same vintage. Right hand drive, was an old mail rig. Newer Scouts had a Nissan Diesel so that swap shouldn't be too hard.:waytogo:

Totally different animal. The 800 A/B and Scout 2's models were built to accept V8's and inline 6's. You simply can not do it in the first gen 80 models. You would have to radically alter the fire wall. In doing so you would have no place for an accelerator pedal. Your basically stuck with an inline 4 in the 80 models. That's fine with me though, cause if I can get it all together it should go down the highway fine, get killer mileage, and be a good little wheeler.

So how many times have people asked if it's a Jeep/Ford/Dodge/whatever?

It has a 27 in back?
Cool ride Corey

Very cool truck Merv. I like it alot

Surprisinly none. Got thumbs up from an old timer though:haha:.

Thanks for the compliments, it's been a long road.

Nice to see someone working on something different. Today just keeping something old going is different but yours is REALLY different.

You want to piss my buddy off remind him of the time he was looking for some steering part for his 800A.

He calls AutoZone, tells them he has a '78 International Scout II 4x4 (his axles and steering were originally Scout II parts), and describes what he needs...

...AutoZone Counter Monkey asks if that's a Ford or a Jeep?:doah:

Yes. All Scout 80 models had front and rear Dana 27 axles. The center section on the rear axle is off set to the right hand side to keep it in line with the the rear output on the twin stick Dana 18 t-case. Most of them had the 4:27 gear ratio as does mine, and 10 spline shafts with closed front knuckles.
I want to switch to D44's out of a later model Scout 2 (early models had drum brake 27 spline D30's up front) for a few reasons. The 44's have 30 spline shafts, open knuckles and disc brakes up front. Another big benefit is much stronger steering components.
Also if you want to do a spring over (front axle) simply pull the axle shafts and tubes out of the center section and stuff them in a GM Dana 44 center section giving you the machined flat spot on top for the spring to sit on. Not 100% sure, but I think you can run Chevy outers on them as well. I really don't see the point in it, because they utilize the old school 5 lug wheels just like the old Fords and Jeeps so wheels are easy to come by. The front brakes are just like the old Ford 1/2 ton pickups and Bronco's.

Hey Corey;
I got the D27 in the front of my Jeepster, so I'm somewhat familiar with them. Closed knuckle too. I would like to put a 76 and up D30 in it. I didn't know they used them in the back. My dad has a 48CJ-2A with a D41 offset axle in it with the D18 t/c also. leaking bastard too.

Sorry for the hi-jack Merv. Carry on.

I hate to see old metal driven in the winter just because the salt eats the sh!t out of em. I love snow wheeling, but just hate the salt.
Try to keep it cleaned up so it dont' dissolve on ya. Cool ride Merv.

Here's a pic for AJMBlazer. Got my other running light hooked up.
