You are doing WHAT to a 1968 SAAB?

I need to clear the shop so that we can swap axles into the guy that painted the SAAB's K5 in this coming weekend so it needed to be driveable. Got the dash done.

Got it on the ground. It looks so small after staring at it on jackstands for two years. Looks soooo much better at normal ride height.

Went to triumphantly drive it out of the shop under it's own power for the first time in 30 years and...the slave cylinder is bad. Not surprising as the last four Miatas that I have built or worked on had a bad slave. This one bled fine but now there's no pedal. Wife and I bled it again, had pedal for a minute and bad again so I'll pick one up tomorrow.

Wow, those pedals are seriously far apart!

They are stock location for a Miata. I move the whole firewall and floor over to this car so all mount points are stock. I think it's an illusion. They are tiny pedals. Basically perfect for heel/toe downshifts.

SAAB made its first trip under its own power for the first time in 30-odd years today, albeit a short one to get it out of the shop and into the other bay. Still an accomplishment.

I love the project
I love the idea this thing is going to screw with a lot of people's heads
I love the blend of two cars, so cool

but damn that's a fugly car :haha: :haha:sure looks better now though :thumb:

I cant wait to see that thing RIPPING down the track!
Its gonna look so cool, when you dump it, and the rear end drops!
Like a bonafied racecar. :D

So...yeah. Minor setback today. Had a clearance issue on the rear quarters. Sucks cutting on brand new paint.

Red's gonna have a heart attack.

Martin

He knows already. All set to get them repainted. He's going to be in town Saturday so I need to get them done this week so he can take them home with him.

So, worked on it again tonight. No matter what I do it isn't going to look as good as it did. Got the basic lines roughed in and it looks out of place to have the body line start and stop and then start again. No pics. I'm kind of disheartened a bit. Will keep working on it. Painter is going to be in town this weekend so I'm trying to get them done so he can take them home with him but my motivation was pretty low tonight. Worst it's been since I started two years ago.

without seeing a current pic just kinda guessing here, and I hate to say it, but just from looking at the repatch, it really looks like your going to need to get rid of the reverse bodyline in the front and back of the patch with some hammer/dollying...

the thing with that is, it will probably require a bit of shrinking here and there as you go.. I generally use a shrinking hammer for most of that.. tho there are other shrinking methods... in a bad case, i'll combine the hammer with torch/quench methods..

without removing that feature and rounding out the panel, it may always have a "goofy" look to it unfortunately...
