You are never going to believe what just happened!

its happened here..

This post reminds me of a Jeep Cherokee my neighbor has...it had a remote starter,so he could warm it up on cold morning while he ate breakfast...but he had 2 other trucks too,and did not drive the Jeep every day...

One day after a big snowstorm,he moved the Jeep so they could plow his driveway--they did,and he parked it at the end of the driveway 150ft away, shut it off,and went back into his house..

Two days later, the guy next door called him up,and blasted him for leaving his Jeep running non stop for the past 2 days!--kept him awake all night!...he ran out to the Jeep--sure enough,it was running!--and his formerly full gas tank was nearly empty!..the doors were still locked, and no keys in the ignition!...he hit the remote to shut it off,and it did...he figured he must have hit the remote start button accidentally, and was pissed he wasted all that gas,and hoped it didn't hurt the motor or catalitic converter idling that long..and went back to bed...

About an hour later,a knock on his door awakened him--it was the local police!--they asked him "Why are you leaving your Jeep running all day and night?--is somone living in it or something?"--He said NO!--I just shut the damm thing off an hour ago!,and explained how he thought he activated the remote accidentally the day before..he went out and shut it off again!---THEN--while standing there talking to the cop--the Jeep starts itself up AGAIN!--the guy and the cop just stared at it,the remote was still in the guys hand, and he was certain he did not hit the button!...

This led him to believe someone nearby must have had a remote starter on the same frequency as his,and the cop agreed--"we get calls all the time from the Wal-Mart up the street, people come out of the store and their car is running!--and they think someone was stealing it"....turned out the Toyota dealership right behind his house about 200ft away were the culprit!--they were moving all the cars around in the lot so they could plow it--and every time they started up a Ford Escort in the used cars "trade in" section with its remote starter--his Jeep started up too!...he ended up cutting the wires on the remote starter!.... :screwy: ...so I guess those things dont have that many "channels" ,and its very possible someone elses remote can and will start your car!..I wonder if those transmitters crooks use to open remote garage doors on houses would be able to start cars with remote starters as well?? ...I think I'll stick with keys..

That's what I was going to say: check to see if somebody previously installed a remote starter. It could be a cheap one that is susceptible to interference.

ok, i was outside taking pictures of a go-kart im trying to sell, next to my 88 blazer. all of a sudden i hear it start to turn itself over. i dont know how, i have the keys in my pocket, and there is nobody in the truck??? i dont know what to do, so i get in it and put the e-brake on, incase it tries to drive itself, and then put the key in and try to start it up. im able to start it up, but the engine then revs really high by itself, so i immediately turn it off, so it doesnt blow up. when its finally turned off, it still is trying to turn over. finally after about 20 more seconds of that it jus quits. and everything is quiet like nothing happened. i then go and unhook the battery to prevent it from doing that again.

the whole thing happened prolly in less than 2 minutes
what happened? has anybody ever experienced anything as farfetched? what do i do now?

thanks guys
Do you have a remote start on it ?? Possibly someone else close by is on the same freq.

I had to put a push button starter on my K5 because It kept trying to start on its own...but your problem sounds like aliens :D :D

Dude, its herbie in K5 form. Hey but Lindsey Lohan is way freakin hot! Check the starter out though, surely thats what it is.

I had the same problem. Check your ignition wire. MIne had grounded. So I installed a new one and purt a pushbutton inline tro prevent it from doing it again.
