Watch for the muzzleflash!
For my next rig, I'm thinking 67-72 SWB,is that the shortest wheel base, there are three, correct? but I want disks, and I like the later year grills.so does that narrow it down to...70-72?

I want 3/4ton, 350,350,205 at any rate. I know nothing about them only that I want little to do with a first gen blazer.:haha:

Still may consider a Bourbon though!

Also looking for the easiest to work on since I have no shop now and no place for any real long term tear down sh¡t.
So help me start to narrow it down so I know exactly what to look for...
Pros/cons Ok go!!!!

3/4 ton is long box only. If you want the short box it'll be a half ton...and twice as spendy as a long box. They weren't near as common back in the day as they got in later years, especially in 4WD.

I think you're right that the 70-72 got the disc brakes.

Fumes in a 1st Gen?

Love it! :waytogo:

The 69 & 70 grilles had the single horzontal bar across the middle, and the 71 & 72 had what they call the "egg rate" grille...more of a uniform square patterned version.

Disc brake conversions are pretty common and simple in the grand scheme of things, so I wouldn't dismiss a truck you like otherwise just because it still had front drums. We will help you through that..... :)

What sort of budget are you working with? There is stuff available at all sorts of prices.... So it depends what you can tolerate.

If you get power brakes the 4 wheel drums are livable, more so w/ a man trans. You could shorten a long bed if you wanted a 3/4 ton, but with no shop that would be pretty tough. Around here 4WD short beds (& K5s) command a premium, 2WD long beds are very reasonable, and 2WD short beds are not bad either. Is 4WD a must?

I keep thinking of you as I cruise cl. What's your budget? And your looking for something that can be a dd immediately right?

Yeah I really need it to be dependable outta the gate, buy it 500ish miles away and drive it home dependable, least of my concerns would be body work. I just plan on Bedliner and flat black if it doesn't have decent paint and body.

Maybe I read that the middle wheelbase was 3/4 ton. Something like 119,124 then 132" just guessing, but I thought I read something like that.

Also yes 4x4 is a must and the egg crate grill, so 71-72.That narrows it down a bunch,
Cutting the bed down is out
Also if GMC was the same, grill, style, whatever, I'd roll one of those.

Not too opposed to something that someone has already modded, like lift, drivetrain, bed& frame chop, upgraded axles. Just not bubblegum and duct taped together. but open to what to look out for in those and other similar hack mods, so I can avoid them.:thumb:

And Mitch if your looking for me, a Burban of same vintage is not completely outta the question, but it'd have to be perfect.:pimp:

I like the one you posted! Looks like exactly what your after, tho i think you said you were after a short bed? And thats a long bed. Im About an hour away from salem.

I'm still looking at what the differences are, there should be 3 wheel bases, a long bed would probably be ok if it were the shorter one. That's kinda why I'm trying to get a better eye at what I'm looking at first. I haven't been next to one of those years in well... Years so...
It really seems like nobody has any idea of what they actually have and since I'm not exactly sure what I want yet, I should study up a bit more and start trying to find some to actually look at I guess.
That's part of why I didn't understand the c/k designations, k should be 4 wheel drive but everyone says "I have a C20" IDFK!!!

The C/K designations still apply in a 67-72. Most of the time, you'll have to get familiar enough with the specifics of 69-70 and 71-72 to pick out the differences. Grill swaps are really common, as are full front clip swaps to get a 67-68 front clip. Just have to know what to look for.

Pics are critical as "a little rust" tends to be a very subjective measurement with these rigs.

Problem rust areas on the pickups tend to be rockers, bottoms of doors, and rear cab corners. Also keep in mind that these have the fuel tank in the cab. I'm not a fan of that at all and I know a lot of guys put an under bed tank in to remedy that.

That's all I got for now...

There is really only two wheel bases. Long and short. Then there is the pretty rare "long horn". Easily identifiable by the extra 10" or so on the front of the bed.

Like this, But really they are quite rare. Probably 1 out of 2000? on CL are Long horn. Other than those ones, its long and short bed only.

This is what I have read as well. I can measure the wb on mine if you want to know what a normal long bed is.

I can't find what I read last time but if Mitch is saying about 10" for a longhorn and IIRC 119" was Short then your WB should be 124".

So rust in the rear corners of the cab, rockers and door bottoms. That's the kinda thing I'm looking for, what other stuff was an issue with these years?

According to this article,it claims the '67-72 trucks came in three wheelbases,116" (short bed),127" (long bed) and the Longhorn was 133"..
I think that info is accurate,as my 1946-1972 Chevy Truck Parts Catalog also shows the same WB info..

It also has a rundown of all the other things they had available as options,etc..

Oh yeah...check the bottom of the battery tray and the core support under the battery tray. Those tend to rust out too.

Check how closely body lines and door / fender gaps, well, line up. Seriously out of kilter body lines can be a symptom of a bigger issue.
