You guys want to help me narrow down my search?

Oh yeah...check the bottom of the battery tray and the core support under the battery tray. Those tend to rust out too.

Check how closely body lines and door / fender gaps, well, line up. Seriously out of kilter body lines can be a symptom of a bigger issue.

Other than rotten mounts? What like a tweaked frame?:waytogo:

Do these also have the steering box area of the frame cracks?

Might as well check while you are there looking but honestly I've never seen a 1st gen cracked there. Of course I may have just been lucky. :dunno:

The 1st gens actually have an extra reinforcement in the steering box area from the factory. It's on the INSIDE of the framerail so it can be hard to see, but it's there.

Cracks in the steering box area are a lot less common on the 1972 and earlier trucks...

Just saw that on ORDs site. I think it said not all of them do, so yeah something to at least keep in mind.
Also just found heartbeat, nice they're not too far and have a classified section to keep an eye on.
Any other sites I should be lurking???:D
This is gonna be fun.... I hope...

Well, if you find anything in my area, I'll take a look.

I really like this '72 long bed Cheyenne. LMAO you're looking for a 4x4, nvm

Yeah. Or it could be as simple as someone didn't know how to properly shim the body to get the gaps and lines right. Either way, it's worth a closer look at the frame and mounts if you see a bunch of misalignment.

Sadly, this is about all you can find here if you want a first generation K5...this is the only one I've seen around here ,other than mint ones at cruise nights..and its rare to see one for sale period...

The ad has been changed since the other day, when it was listed for 3500 ,and needed "total restoration" and must rust repair!..I am sure it looks better in the photos than it will in person...

No k5, and aesthetically I can't get past wanting a short bed so a LWB is out, I'll either find a SWB with 3/4 ton axles or upgrade at a later time.

So 71-72,SWB,4x4,350-350-205

What kinda lift can fit 33-35s 4" with some trimming?

4" will get you 35's on the street. If you're gonna wheel it at all, expect to do some trimming, or go 6"

Fumes, putting 80's era 3/4 ton axles in a 71-72 will be a bolt on on the front with better brakes.

The rear would need a 1 ton axle and move the shock tabs, or move both spring perches and shock tabs on a 3/4 ton version. Not tough if you can line up a friend with a grinder and welder.

It might be out of your realm, but a lot of guys who want a SWB (and don't want to pay the premium pricing for one) will buy a cheap long bed and chop the 12" or so out of the frame and rear bed area... :waytogo:

I think they did a series on HorsepowerTV or Trucks where they did a conversion like that.

Might be worth thinking about.

Yeah that's the conclusion I came to as well.

Not actually looking to buy right now just trying to narrow down what I want
Those last two Craig's ads gives me something more to look at too as far as potential hack job stuff
Where would the frame cut be made? I'm guessing right behind the cab.

Wow, that's a really good selling picture. Beautiful truck. I'd ask for a frame picture, it could have been done really well.
Damn, I'm glad I don't have a big yard, could get in trouble buying trucks. :doah:

I took a quick look at the adds around here (N. utah). There were a couple of good looking blazers in the 6k range and several long beds but no short beds.

Are you interested in shipping something or more just looking in your area?

When the time comes and Ive stocked up on funds, if the price was right for the right truck, I'd pick it up and drive it home. Maybe try and make a "Fumes event" out of it.:haha:
