Tool guys that don't make an effort to come to your place of work on days you dont work. The stupid ass matco guy comes in the beginning of the week when 1 shift isnt even there. Snap on guy comes twice a week, and the mac guy just doesnt come at all. I got matco stuff but man does that guy suck ass. snap on gets all my business due to that:mad:

snap on and mac in my area

mac sucks his own ba!!s as far as i am concerned

snap on get my money. hell just look for my toolbox thread here. that will show you how much he gets.

Honestly I can't see paying an arm and a leg for tools...I buy Craftsman...except for special tools...can't see spending that much for a name....Craftsman are returnable as well...just like the "Brand Names"

Do you do the job for a living? Believe me, you learn to respect the "Brand Names" when you turn a wrench everyday. I hate when someone hands me a Craftsman wrench or ratchet when I am helping them.

Some tool guys just suck. They exist, and it blows. Today is my long day. My first stop is at 6:30 in the morning, as 3rd shift is ending and 1st is starting at the quarry near me. Then my last stop of the day is at 6:30 at night, after 2nd shift starts. So I make sure to see all 3 shifts. 12 hours in the truck sucks, but I have to do it. I also had to move the Toyota dealer from Friday to Thursday since every week one team has off Friday. So I miss 1 team worth of guys every week. Forget that. The Cornwell guy(before he went out of business) went there on Fridays and just never wised up.

If you catch the Matco guy tell him he needs to shape up if he wants your business. Don't be a dick about it, even though you probably should be. Just tell him he'd do more business if he just made the effort. I figured that out a while ago and do it.

That's "Crapsman" tools, because they have a poor fit, and I would have to have 3 of everything to be able to finish a job with those before going back to the store to trade them all in.:doah: None of the tool guys come in on my shift at all. I work 3pm-midnight, and we have to leave broken tools with the day shift to get anything replaced. I still can't buy anything unless I come in 5 hours early to catch the damn tool guys.

Thats not always a bad thing if you have chrome fever:doah:

Snap-On around here. Mac guy went out of business when I first started down here. I havent seen a Matco truck around here ever. Their is a Cornwell truck that make the rounds where my roommate works but Gibbs said he keeps trying to sell the tractor mechanics stuff for cars so hes not doing so hot at CaseIH. The stuff he does have is more highpriced then Snap-On too.

I do use my tools for a living and with Craftsman I don't have to wait for someone to come see me...I have some snap-on stuff...but not much...they are way too expensive

Have some snap-on matco mac and cornwell. The new snap-on guy won't stop here. Not much of a loss as there hasn't been a snappy guy for months. Matco guy seems nice but is usually way to high priced. Mac guy is cool and gets some of the cash. The cornwell guy is cool and prices are reasonable, one of the other guys said," Damn this guy is just cheap enough he's going to get a lot of my money."

The biggest thing seems to be what you work on. They can relate to the car guys for the most part. But those of us who work on trucks or heavy equipment and so forth, they don't have the background or resources or something to get to us. Cornwell is the only one who's asked us if there was anything we wanted him to get on the truck. He was honest and said,"You guys work on trucks, what do you need?"

And as to the quality of the tool guys to craftsman, it doesn't stand up in the smaller sizes like under one inch. Sears almost won't give me warranty anymore :haha:

don't you think you might be a little biased seeing as how you sell tools for a living

Ive been a mechanic for 20 years and agree with the others.
NONE of us make a living with Crapsman Tools

well i am not trying to start any arguments with all you high and mighty wrench turners, but i also turned wrenches for a living for a while; and i broke more scrap iron (snap-on) stuff than i ever broke craftsman.

now i just work on my own rigs and i use an assortment of tools; craftsman, mac, matco, snap-on, harbor freight, whatever. i agree the high end stuff is nice, but it is not unbreakable.

Maybe you didn't read the part were I said I do make a living with them...last time I checked 150K a year IS MAKING A LIVING!!...I work on diesels in the oilfield....also work on wellheads in the Barnett Shale...not trying to start an argument...but come on let's don't turn this into the ol'..."nuh huh my tools are better than yours"...just stating that the expensive stuff breaks too...and for the price Craftsmen works good for me...I do havesome of the other stuff...but when it breaks and I can take it back on my way home...works better for me.

I use cheap tools. Course i don't do it for a living. :D

My mom bought me a set of Popular mechanics tools about 6-7 years ago and i couldn't be more happy. Plus i have sent off sockets cause it DID have lifetime warranty. I mean i use the 1/2" drive for a hammer at times. I have broke just about every tool out there due to misuse but i'm not gonna complain that a free ratchet takes a crap ;) If i buy another it'll probably be cheap

theres no way you'd get me to use Craftsmen tools for anything other than a Box that I throw in the pickup for emergency use

We had an Idiot at work that thought they would save money by buying Craftsmen tool boxes and tools for our Power Plants . the ratchets break the wrenches spread , the boxes won't handle the weight , the screw driver tips break off, and the sockets split

Craftsman Ergo's suck too there tools are just not comfortable to use

After that we all started carrying or personel tools again and the company has to pay for the freight AND to insure our tools .

We should be getting complete Snap-on setups within the next 2 months
are Snap-On dealer rocks we get a 15% discount on anything we buy . and he will even meet us at anytime he call to warranty tools and to let us shop the truck . and if we break a tool in the bush he'll send us a new one next day no questions asked and then we just ship the broke stuff back to him.

Honestly the only time I've broke snap-on stuff is because of total miss-use

If you have a Good Tooltruck you know why you paymore. sucks that some of you guys have trouble with your Dealers

I would use them as well for 15% off...and with service like that...I also forgot to mention that since my wife goes to college and I am the bacon bringer homer I am a TIGHTWAD...!!...Craftsman works for me...maybe i'll get the "good stuff" one of these days:(...to each his own

I should mention that our guy is an Industrial/Government Sales he doesn't do the normal rounds to the Stealerships and repair facilities . we had the same type of set up when I was in the Airforce which is when I bought most of my tools

I work on Gensets and Power Plants in remote locations ( no roads, access by Plane, boat in summer ,or Snowmachine in winter) so I have to have good tools or I have to wait Days or weeks for replacements

all this stuff is opinion though really or its "in my experience"

Yeah kinda the way it is with anything. Different strokes for different folks.

Everybody has an opinion on what's best. I just use what's convenient at the time. even if it's a kids plastic shovel :D

Craftsman works for me, as I'm sure it does for all the other DIY'ers. Sure I've broken a hand full of ratches/sockets, but I drive 10 minutes, and they give me new ones. Works for me
