I have never heard of anybody lowering the steering box. Looks like a huge difference. Lookin good!!!

Same to you my friend. It was great to finally meet a few of you guys I've been talkin with on here for years...You, Russel, Eric and Shawn are the ones I can remember right now. There were a couple other CK5'ers for sure and quite a few guys from Pirate.

I lowered the box just for the reason you mentioned, because I'd never heard of anyone doing it. I like doin stuff like that. :)

I finally got back home a couple days ago and decided to tackle one of the things I could do without really spending money on parts. I lowered the steering box about 4" on the frame. I was able to utilize the original lower forward mounting hole on the frame, the other three I had to build a mount for. My drag link is now perfectly parallel with the tie rod and the bump steer is about 90% gone. I'm sure the rest of it will be solved by a hydraulic assist ram.

With the box lowered like that, I think you'll need some major reinforcement of the frame around it, if you haven't done that already.
Think ORD:s frame brace x5

I wouldn't say that your drag link is parallell to the tie rod, just the last section of it.
It's the imaginary line from DLE to DLE that counts.
Not that it needs to be perfectly parallell on the other hand, you surely improved it.

Cool truck btw:waytogo:

How's the dropped steering box doing for you now that you've got a few miles on it? Any stress cracks, adverse handling, etc?

I'm considering doing the same thing but to clear my engine (I kept the crank centerline at the same point as the 454 that I pulled out). I can make it work with some mods otherwise, but dropping the steering box seems like a logical solution.

No adverse effect at all. No cracks, no worries. If you do it, just make sure you brace everything excessively. :D

Need to finish plumbing. :pimp1:

Thats some damn purty weld you laid down there :waytogo: did you run downhill on that small section of verticle?

Yes that was a downhill weld. That little piece was part of the factory steering stablizer bracket that was already welded to the tube. I cut most of it off and found a piece of 2x2x1/4 square tube that fit between that bracket on the tube and the housing right next to the diff cover. Half hour with a cut off disc, grinder and welder and I had a perfect spot to weld my tabs to. That vertical weld I did, is on the backside of the factory weld for that bracket.

:pimp: looks like you n your welder have become one! :haha: nice flat welds:thumb:
