‘06 F-150

You might could score a running 5.4L for $500 to swap in instead. Probably just need to swap the pcm but I'm not sure. I've got '06 f150s at work that are set up both ways.
Not going to go that route. This is a beater build for my brother and I have zero desire to modify anything haha.

Got the cylinder honed up. New piston and rings are here. Finally found out why the compression was zero on that cylinder. The intake valve was not closing all the way. It’s not bent. It’s too long haha. The damn valve tuliped in and grew about 60 thousandths in length. The lash adjuster was bottomed out.

Did you send this thing off a sweet jump yet?
They take a beating real well. The meter readers for the utility I work for thrash the shit out of them. Done a few with the lower eyes broke off the front struts. They ride fine like that. Usually the driver never even says anything is wrong with it and I'd find it on an inspection.

Harley runs that crappy plastic tensioner system also. First thing I used to swap for gear drive. Hopefully the 4 wheel systems are a little better.

Not really. It’s one of the mod motors issues from what I’ve read.

LOL...Fords are notorious for issues in the timing area. 2v, 3v and 4v engines. Had a couple get traded into the dealership that sounded fine until we changed the oil. Apparently, the hot ticket when one is noisy is to dump the lightweight oil spec for the engine and dump some thick sauce in, Lucas, STP, name your snake oil. Trade in to some unsuspecting dufus sales manager and reap the benefits of higher trade value.

Once the right oil is back in the damn think sounds like the chain is going to cut out through the aluminum housing. The last one we got stuck with I called my counterpart service manager at the Ford store down the street. Gave him the scenario that it was quiet prior to the oil change and noisy after. He laughed and said I had two choices, put thick sauce back in it and pass the problem down the line or put new timing set in it. We put a timing set in it.

At least that one doesn't have all the garbage cam phasers and crap. Just simple overhead cam with chains instead of belts. :waytogo:
Yeah, when we got this thing I started reading up on them. There’s a guy on YouTube fordmakuloco or something like that. Really informative
