‘76 K10 SWB Silverado "Pops"- Off to its new home!

Mostly stock rebuild.
A driver dude. That’s what it’s been the entire time. Car shows. Longer day adventures. DD. Nice evening drives to get ice cream. Anything that involves driving a square.
So why does that require a OD?

Heres a hot take for you. The difference is gas mileage to not worth it.
I drive my turbo 350 stepside all over and for the limited use it gets, I never thought I needed an OD. And I regularly drive it 4 hours away from home to my friends house.

Fix up the body, forget about swaping that 700. And save the time and money for the NV4500.
Focus on the long term goal of having a nice truck and not short term instant gratification projects that don't actually help you finish your long term goal.

I agree with this. I used to drive my k20 @ 80mph on 40s down the freeway in California 2 hours each way to go wheeling. OD is nice. But it’s not a need.

I am sure Greg thinks I'm picking on him. I'm not. But if he isn't the poster child for the whole squirrel.gif
thing, then I don't know who is.
Just because you have a 700 laying around does not mean you have to use it.
Last I knew you had a 4L80E laying around you weren't using either.

Get a long term plan together and work towards that.
(Sounds like you have one)

I have a 400 small block that a good ready to run engine. Sometimes it crosses my mind to slam it into my 76, but if I do that today how does that help me achieve my long term goal of a BBC powered stepside?
It doesn't. So I just keep working toward my long term goal. Instead of spending the few hundred dollars is miscellaneous stuff for a point less swap I save that money for my bbc.

I agree with the TH350. It will stay, but that 203 has got to go. If I have a good 205 to swap right in, then that's a no brainer.
Much better! Dickless wasn’t a good thing. :haha:
Is that a factory radio too!?
Uncut dash, but not a factory radio. It's digital, but still very much a late 80's unit. IF I can get it to work, it will stay for now.

just curious, why is that a no brainer? they are both heavy, have about the same ratio, both probably need a rebuild. other than the 203 has a chain and 205 is gears; for an occasional off roader why not go with a 208 or 241 for the lower ratio?

I have a 27 spline 205. too bad I am so far away

My 205 is a 27 spline, which is why I want to switch it. I am not using my 205 for anything other than a doubler later down the road. At that time, I would swap a 208 behind the NV that I eventually want to swap in to this truck. And the doubler would be for the K5.

what the hell gears are in that? 3.50’s :rotfl:

I see no issue adding overdrive for a cruiser If that’s your goal Greg.

Have you looked to see if the engine is a 400 yet?

I can’t ever get my head back there good enough to read the block # I just clean it the best I can and take a pic with my phone.

3.73's and 37's and I'm running around 2700-2800rpm at 70mph in 3rd. I'd over 3000 at 80. For a vehicle I plan to use for lots of cruising, OD would be a need.

Beags has a point. If OD is the end goal, then save for the NV swap and just focus on the body right now. The truck runs and drives. It's typical for me to start messing with stuff and end up with a nonrunning vehicle.

This engine has 3 freeze plugs per side, which I was told is a 400 only thing. I'm pretty sure it's a 400. It still has the factory 2bbl that could have been paired with the 400, so I'm going to say it is.

I'm running the C10 daily driver with the TH350. As far as fuel milage I've noticed the biggest difference is if I'm doing mostly town driving vs mostly highway. It gets a lot better mpg if it's all highway. That's kinda told me an OD trans may not help as much because it won't improve town driving.

I'm very curious to see what happens to mpg with the EFI.
