Mild restoration build to use as a truck should be used.
Throw a flatbed on it and drive it. Oh and some 32/11.50s. Oh and I remembered earlier that way back in the high school days my buddy had a stock car and I think they used to all have to run that 2 barrel motocraft carb. My brother in law the Ford guy says it's basically a 500 cfm Holley carb.
See my brother said the same thing, but make it 4x4. I don't really have any uses for a flat bed truck, let alone a 2x4 flat bed. Lord knows I have enough 2x4 vehicles. (sorry Beags, took that one from you). I guess if I come across a really good deal on either a flat bed or a rust free bed, that will decide what direction I go I suppose.

The bed does need replaced. The bed supports underneath are in really bad shape, to the point it won't support much. But as for now, once it is running, it's getting used as is regardless. So I guess we'll see how it holds up.
 
There are advantages to a truck that isn't as tall for hauling stuff. My lowered C10 used to be good for that until the paint got done and the risk factor was too high in my mind. But it doesn't have air bags, just light coils, so it squats quickly.
Flatbed trucks are good for hauling some things, but I hassle to keep small stuff on them.
I would just leave the bed until you find a better one for cheap. And leave it 2wd, save the time and money for the other trucks.

(I know it's a big joke) but you haven't got the other one converted yet. . You don't need 4wd to toss trash in the back.

Unless you happen to find a 4wd chassis and it's just a body swap. I wouldn't bother. Just fix things here and there and use it.
Unless you have a grander plan of a full resto your holding out on us...

My lowered 2000 is so awesome for hauling stuff. Being as low as it is, is super nice for heavy lifting. But as you stated, it bottoms out quick and can't haul a lot. My crew cab is great for hauling large stuff, but it is a little taller than stock now, so it makes loading it a little tougher if I am loading by hand.

I want to use this truck as a truck, and go for a mild restoration while keeping it useable. In the end, I want this to be a decent truck that I can hand down to one of my boys. The 4x4 swap would happen much later, like with their help and/or if they decide they need the 4x4. Time will tell, but it will be 2wd for some time.
 
I love my C30 flatbed. Perfect height to use it as a work bench and easy to load. I had a square with a wood flatbed when I was in tech school. Some 2x6s and 4x4s for crossmembers and a 2x12 for the front and it worked fine. Kinda light out back in the snow though.
 
Flat beds are awesome to have as long as you still another regular truck. You have to strap EVERYTHING down. Regular truck. Not so much. Well I don't at least. Lol. Before my CK5 days I had a 79 K20 flatbed. As a general work around the farm truck. Loved that thing. Sold it when I moved to Denver in 09. Should have kept it. Damn it.
 
Can we go back to the lug count? I only count 4 in that rear axle picture on the previous page. Sorry that's all I got.
 
Oh I will also add, the 73 C10 is pretty much all we've been using for moving stuff out of the house. It's much more handy to load.
 
My advice-leave the motorcraft alone. They're simple and work extremely well. Friend and his dad run a machine and fab shop, their field service rig is a 78 F250 351M with the same two barrel and it never fails to amaze me how easily it starts and runs

The motorcraft is long gone. The videos are of the q-jet. Didn't do a single thing to the q-jet other than spray it down with carb cleaner and bolt it up. Purrs like a kitten, and fires off on the first crank. That motorcraft wouldn't even keep the truck idling.

Teaches me to get behind and just skim to get caught up!
