'10 JK build (flame away)

So back in December, I purchased a 2010 J**p Wrangler Rubicon. I honestly still hate most J**p owners and thing they are bland loyalist that need to be punched in the mouth. I honestly am almost fed up with all the J**p forums because half of them aren't wheelers and most don't believe in building parts yourself. I've just recently decided, I will no long buy parts I can build. $350 for a tie rod, when I can build one to the same design for $125. Its worth my time to practice my welding skills in order to learn a skill/trade to help with future work on other 4x4s and mine. I have butted heads alot of other forums because some people think to much in the box and then when you prove them wrong they get butthurt and still claim your wrong.

I seriously hate the jeep community, but this forum has always treated me great. People here tend to think out of the box and I feel like its not a big push by shops/venders to buy this or that product, but to get the parts you need. In other words I don't feel like there is as much politicking here as there is in other forums.

Anyway here's my build thread on my Rubicon. I bought it and it never had been taken off road. It has a warn 9500Ti winch and mopar bumpers. other than that it was bone stock. I have a feeling some doctor ordered it because he liked jeeps and then wanted a new model because it had 46k miles on it when I bought it.

One of the first things I did was get a shoulder bolt and rotated the electric sway bar disconnect up and behind the crash bar on the frame up front. Then I added a Rock Krawler suspension coil spacer lift that leveled it out and lifted it 2", added sway bar disconnects, removed the rear sway bar.

Soon after that I added some 4 door hard top springs, and some different shock mounts so I could run 12.5" travel shocks. I ran that set up till I decided on a 2.5" Rock Krawler lift, which is actually rated for a 4 door wrangler and jacked it up about 4".

Lately I added some JCR rock sliders which were kind of a pain in the ass to install. Nutserts are the devil lol. I haven't put them to use yet but they are sold and I have...

And people still think they need long arms on those.

I dig the 2 dr JKs not so much the 4 doors.

Now get to cutting the fenders, sleeve the front axle, truss the rear and start rocking some 37s:D:D:D:D

I like the four doors (Unlimited...). I hate the short wheel base. That is the worst problem with my silly K5.

At least in '10 (not 10') you don't get stuck with the ugly wheels they put on the Rubicons now.

Not going bigger than 35s
Lol. I have seen where people put TJ fuel tanks in them and going flatbelly. I also want build my own control arms and do a 1 inch stretch up front and an 1.5" out back.

But plan is for BTF weld together diff covers, ruff stuff tie rod, artec front truss/gussets, the crossover pipe relocation, metal cloak springs, and might build my own bumpers.

Main reason why I want to change springs is because the metal cloak ones have a lot longer free length. So they don't come unseated and give me more traction.

Your just here to pick up cheap Dana 44's and 10 bolts and 350's when we move up to tons and BBC's.:haha::haha:

Now that you did the lift and suspension work your almost as tall as a stock blazer.:D:D

Ok flame over. Awsome rig and love the wheeling pics can't wait to see what's next. Thought about playing with an xj.

Actually I'm damn sure my k5 sits taller completely stock. Lol I'm getting all excited with a plasma torch and welder so stand by lol. Kidding not doing anything to crazy yet, I can afford a little here and there. I will be fabbing a lot myself. Its just so much cheaper that way.

I like it. I think this forum has proven its not about what you drive but more about your will to improve it to the best of your own capabilities.

Again, the community here really is top notch and the wealth of knowledge is a very deep pool here. I'm just tired of all the "Jeep" people, its like if you buy a jeep you're automatically glorious at anything off road lol. Oh and nothing compares either. But I've made a few good friends/ wheeling buddies.

I had a bunch of Jeep buddies arguing on Facebook about how you can't use reverse cut gears in a high pinion diff becuase they are supposed to go in the back diff becuase they turn backwards compared to the front.

Sigh.

Alot of them buy them and have no clue about anything. They mainly read off forums and "web wheel". And if it ain't bolt on you're wrong. There is a jk only sight that is a spin off from pirate which isn't to bad but for the most part I can't stand the culture jeep brings. Still don't know why the JK is the most popular either.

because the light duty a$$ yj has to be ENTIRELY upgraded to be a very capable rig from what ive read. jk had better parts and a better suspension

A group of Jeep people, are a breeding ground of bad ideas.

It's like that rule: "One person is smart. A group of people are dangerous."

Can't wait to see this build!!! :D

I was all about buying a JK last year before I decided to go back to school.*

I joined two JK forums while I was researching them and the asshatery was amazing. The comment about not being able to think outside the box is correct. Jeesh.

*As far as school has gone so far...it may have been a better idea to buy a Jeep. :doah:

Best advice is to shop around, bought mine with a winch and bumpers only 46k miles for $23k out the door.

Eh, plans change. Probably end up with a pickup now.

I'm still using stock control arms on mine. All you really need are longer travel shocks, and longer coil springs.

it doesnt matter what brand specific forums you look at, theres some good forums, theres some full of idiots. when i had my cherokee i visited a cherokee only forum and was told that the jeep 4.0L engine wasnt big enough to turn the ring gears in one ton axles. then because one guy said it who had 10,000 posts, 3 other guys jumped on the band wagon. :haha:

ive seen some chevy forums that are only about "look at my new 20" wheels on my half ton IFS with 24" of lift"
