I've got a few buddies who play with these and another guy who's a bona-fide junk hunter on the job, looking for a replacement. We'll see what they can come up with.

I think if I swapped engines, I would try to find a Ford Flathead V8 to T-90 adapter and go that route. Vintage cool swap.
 
Buick 3800 with a S10 t5.
Buick 3800 are literally like free these days.
To bad your not closer I would give you a t5/Transfer case. 231 I think.
I think the T5/NP231 are longer than the Jeep.... lol
 
I'm prob gonna get the ban stick for saying this, but.. the Mahindra Roxors were willy's jeeps. Mahindra still makes them in India and just got out of a lawsuit where they had to change the front grill (ugly as hell now) but if you're not a stickler for totally stock parts, you may be able to use some of them parts as well...

Na, my uncle has a cj-2a. He says I can have it when he passes.
It's been sitting forever so I assume it will need a rebuild whenever I get it.
I actually figured a roxor diesel would be perfect to get.
I believe I had a thread on them years ago.
 
 
I'll get on there. Need to find out about porting and angle milling the head. :reddevil:
