The 1st weekend of May, I drove the car from Northeast Illinois to Dubuque Iowa for the Vintage TorqueFest car show. It handled the trip there with no problem. I made a short stop at the hotel to drop things off & then went over to the fairgrounds. I got stuck in a line to get in & the car started getting hot. Right as I pulled through the gates and attempted going up a small hill, the car sputtered & died. I could not get it started. Popped the hood and saw the fuel inside the filter next to the carb was boiling. Let it cool off for awhile, poured a little gas down the carb and we got it back running.

As you can see, before this show I had put on a different set of hubcaps. I also installed a new aluminum radiator, water pump & hoses

Thanks! The striping was done by Brett Mason, he's my friends uncle and has done a few pinstripe projects for me now.

I forgot to mention, before the Iowa trip, I had a local mechanic install a new master cylinder & new brake shoes front & back. I installed new rubber hoses front & back too.

Later this year we went to a car show at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois

Started having some issues with the car & after farting around with it for way too long, it ended up getting a new carb that I found on Ebay & a Pertronix distributor conversion to eliminate the points & condenser.

Shortly after that, I got a dual exit tube header from a company online and had the local exhaust shop install it & run lake pipe style exhaust all the way back

Then we put the car outside for a few days for the kids in the neighborhood to enjoy

And that's where we are at as of today

Nice! Lots of old iron in that yard. Those are 49-50 Dodges. Not sure what the grill goes for on those but last week there was one for mine (51-52) on ebay. He was selling all 3 pieces of it individually, together he wanted $400!

I'll work on getting some pics. But update time: Last time I drove the car, Halloween night, my brake pedal pretty much went to the floor. Pulled the carpet and checked the Master cylinder. Yes, the master cylinder is under the floor on this car. Bone dry! Filled it up and everything worked. Got the car into the garage and saw the back side of the driver side rear tire was wet. Must have a leaking wheel cylinder.

Car sat all winter. I picked up a NOS gravel guard for the driver side so whenever I put the NOS rear fender for that side on the car, I will have a perfect gravel guard for it too. Also picked up an NOS pass side front turn signal chrome bezel. Mine has a huge dent in it.

Two weeks ago I started the fun process of removing the rear brake drums so that I could be sure it was the wheel cylinder that needed to be replaced. Mopar had some stupid rear brakes in the 30s-60s. The drum must be removed with a special puller....everytime! My brother has the puller, it's basically a heavy duty hub puller. I was able to get the driver side off with little trouble. Just what I thought, wheel cylinder leaking. Went to take off the other side since I planned on replacing both rear wheel cylinders. No bueno! It refused to come off. I managed to break off a wheel stud. Then strip the threads off the stud next to it.

Yesterday I removed the whole rear axle. I'm going to replace this rear end with something more modern. Still trying to decide what I'm going to use. Thinking cherokee Dana 35, Ford 8.8, or a local friend says he has a 94 Buick roadmaster rearend that may work.

Either way, I'll have to weld on new spring mounts and shock mounts. Also I will have to address the rear driveshaft. I will probably have to have a whole new one made

You will be better off though.

I love your car wouldn't touch the engine or trans but modern axles and brakes. Yep I would do that.

Exploder 8.8 is 57" WMS to WMS I think. 3.73's, LSD and disc's are common...and they're dirt cheap in the junk yards. I'm most likely going to swap one under my 57 Pontiac eventually.

The engine is definitely staying in. I'm not real hung up on the trans & I would swap it out if something went wrong. It isn't downshifting like its supposed to since the Pertronix install but I think I figured out the problem and will address that after the axle swap.

Exploder 8.8 is 59.5 The Ranger 8.8 is 58.5. Friend of mine just got an exploder 8.8 with discs to put in the back of his ranger to replace the 7.5 rear. He said he would sell me his 7.5 for $75 which I am seriously considering. This car only has 110hp so that would be fine. He's double checking what gear ratio it has for me tonight.

I don't think discs in the rear will work with the master cylinder I have. It's only 1 year old, so I'm not gonna replace that. My stock rear axle is 61" wide. An xj Dana 35 is 60.5" wide, which is one axle I was considering. I would like to go narrower than my stock rearend since removing the rear tires right now is pretty tricky due to it being lowered and the wheel well opening being way smaller than most cars of this era.
