1967 Chevy Malibu Sport Sedan - hardtop

Yes ground wire on regulator mounting screw is my recollection. I can't go look, am in a different state atm.

That looks like an original adjustable regulator. Been about 20 years since I did mine. If you remove the cover there will be an electromagnetic coil, that closes a contact arm. There is a screw that adjusts the timing of the open and close. I probably need to look this up and refresh my mem, dam CRS virus

It's been more than 30 years since I had to deal with one of those.

@Wes Harden do you still have the 3 wire alternator or did you convert to 1 wire?

The P.O. did replace the alternator, but kept it 3 wire. It's been having charging problems and found they has just hooked up the charging cable by splitting the wires after the ring terminal had broken.

Not sure a new terminal has fixed my issue. Was looking at replacing the regulator, but not sure that was worth the investment vs changing the alternator to 1 wire with internal regulator.

Thanks for any thoughts y'all might have.
Just to make sure we don't confuse things: 3 wire alternator does not mean external regulator.
All chevy SI and CS series alternators are 3 wire, and internal regulator.
You can convert them to 1 wire but I don't see the point.
I do however recommend the internal regulator ones but only if you find out that you have a problem.
If it ain't broke don't fix it

@ekajkrats have you had a chance to look at it?
Nope, not yet. I bought parts to bolt it back to the radiator support and to put on a new ground wire, then kids sports took over the last couple weeks.

I don't mind that as I love baseball and both my older boys (11 and 8) were in the championships for their league and started All-stars as well.

The carb was having issues even when idling. So I thought, what the heck, might as well, and got a Holley 2bbl for it (that may have occured after a run and coke). The rebuilt one that came on the car, besides stumbling, also leaks out the throttle linkage. Figured try the Holley and rebuild this at my leisure. It was a rebuild already when I got the car and not the nice original finish on it.

Also the weather got real nice and warm, so the blazer has been getting a lot more miles on it.

As for knowing it is externally regulated I hooked up a wire directly from the alternator to the battery and it would climb up over 17 volts the longer I ran it...but glad I learned before I caused damage to the battery.

Thanks for checking and keeping me honest.
