1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

looking good man. I like the pcm mount. I like the solution I came up with for mine, but I gotta say, it never occurred to me to turn it over and mount it upside down. That turned out slick.

I think that those support isolators were a high density foam from the factory. They get hard over the years and seem like rubber. That's why they break into pieces so easy when they come out. My guess is that they are foam so that it doesn't hold moisture as bad. That probably won't matter to you where you live. I had a hard time making one of mine stay put. The hood support had been pushed down slightly. Not fun to adjust after paint! I finally got it glued in place.

Hmmm, hadn't thought about it aging. Mine were hard but they came out in one piece. Reminded me of the tank isolators on my blazer, but thicker. In any case, I still have them but they are too thin to help. Plus, as thin as they are, they squish down next to nothing. I guess if my supports were closer. My hood has a nice bow in it, like most, so I added that center brace. But what I'm after is something 3/8 for the sides and maybe 1/2" for the center but I haven't measured yet.

I looked at several pieces of rubber for sale on eBay. This "gum" stuff has the highest elasticity out of the bunch, which I hope helps with squish, but doesn't have a very high temperature rating. :(

I know that mosesburb on here did some kind of adhesive on his and liked it. Might try looking his post up or asking him.

should look at home once the bed is LineX'ed :D Haven't had much time for this since the blazer has been down. It's funny looking at my progress, such small updates, all the while folks are flying along with their projects. Man, I feel slow lol

I update my burb thread with 'progress' like once every 2 years, so your Flying along to ME if that helps any :thumb:

That looks cool, need details.

last page has everything
2" marine fill cap
2" exhaust 90* bend from Orielly's
2" marine ethenal approved hose to a Byod Welding side fill tank

:D

I plan on running a roll up aluminum tonneau cover, so it will be "locked" too :waytogo:

Huh... I thought I was up to date on your build....guess I missed some....looks good:waytogo:

I love how that came out btw...

As an aside on the scaredness of drilling a tapping stainless. Its really not difficult. You just need to realize its not steel, drill slow with oil (not wd40!) or even soap works great and pressure. Tapping its just crucial to have the correct fraction or even letter drill bit and lots of oil and dont fray from the traditional 1/2 a turn in, 1 turn back guideline for cutting threads.

Yep, it was doable but tough! Never drilled that thick of SS before, never tapped SS either.

Still working on the wiring, little by little. Takes a LOT of will power to get out there and continue doing something I hate doing and have only done once before. Lot of thinking

This took me just about all day. E-fan and horn relays. I hate wiring but it looks 1,000 times better than the Blazer. The Blazer wires work, but they are rats' nests, can't do that with the '68. :doah:

Looks decent on the side of the battery tray. :dunno:

looks good... should hold up well with the shrinktube...

if you really wanna be anal about how your wiring looks, here's a tip... if you want perfect 90 degree, or 45 bends in your wire, heat the area with a heatgun some, bend while warm and let cool... they'll maintain a perfect bend... that's how we do super neat wiring in the boat systems..

That above picture is as good as it gets. As much as I can appreciate other peoples great wiring work, I ain't putting that much time into it. lol I've got a whole truck to do.

There's something awfully satisfying about clean wiring.

Nice trick Paul, I'll have to use that.

Looks good man. What are the orange things? Horns?

Also, did you modify a stock battery tray for the passenger side or did you build that yourself?

The red things are Hella horns.
I got the battery tray from Brotherstrucks.com, they may have more still but if they don't, good lord they are on backorder for a year. They have them made locally. I should have bought one from 67-72 forum.

Looking really good there man! Yeah learned Brothers always seems to take longer then most to get parts from. There are alot of good sights for parts though for 67-72 C10.
Got anymore in on those horns? K5 needs some because people love to pull out in front of me and test my brakes.

They are either Hella Supertones or Sharptones, can't remember but one is red and one is yellow. Haven't really heard them in person yet. Got a short blast out of each of them testing in the garage, seem loud, but haven't heard them together for any length of time.
