1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

you know, Irish1942 just mentioned the same thing. Interesting. How the hell do I replace my low hump?

Well I took a 4x4 Trans tunnel and traced it out over my 2x4 tunnel cut it out... a inch smaller of course! And bolted the 4x4 one in.

I converted my 77 two wheel drive cab to four wheel.

Also
I'm looking for a high hump trans tunnel just in case I end up with a 6.0/4l80 combo. I thought they were bolt in but apparently not. My tunnel is part of my floor. How is it that I've seen them bolted in?

Has to be one of my favorite chevy's , not a fan of the lwb but to each his own.

Couldn't you just cut it out and raise it? just like when doing a traditional bodydrop? Seem's that would be the easiest to me.

Did you ever find wheels? My internet connection here in afg sucks so half the pics never load.

Ended up going with some 20x8.5" Boss rims. I'll probably run them till the tires are done and sell them. I kinda like the Ridlers more, or something else when the time comes.

I think for now, since it's not a simple bolt in deal, I'm going to leave it alone until the engine and trans are in. At which point, if things all fit right, I wont have to worry about the trans tunnel.

The trans hump was dependant on what trans the factory installed. ALL 4x4s and 4 speeds got the tall hump. TH400 with bigblock did as well. All the tall ones bolt in, but all of the low hump were like what you have. Can you wait on the hump until you decide the engine/trans, and then test fit?

I can wait. Was just trying to paint the firewall and bottom soon, but I can always redo that.

Tipped the cab on it's back. Probably sprayed Simple Green 10 times and scrubbed/rinsed between coats. It is very clean except some areas. I had to stop, otherwise I wasn't going to finish everything I wanted to get done. Rustoleum flat rattle can for primer and Rustoleum oil base (like the frame) sprayed on with a HF gun. Worked terrible but it's completely covered and done. I have to remind myself sometimes that this is a daily driver and will get very dirty, and never washed lol

Rockers will be replaced waaaaay in the future.

I thinned the crap out of this paint too. Just wouldn't spray very well. Now it's drying in the hot ass sun and collecting bugs :doah:

I'm also finishing up my gas tank install. I got everything positioned, holes drilled, picked up some flanged pinch nuts and currently welding them to a piece of steel. This will sandwich the tank flange against the frame and hold the nuts in place. I had to remove some rivets to get the last crossmember out of the way since the tank fits better between the rails instead of under them. I also cut and bent down the top of the frame where the filler tube is. The hose was not going to clear the frame. So after bending it down, I filled the cut with some weld and ground it down. Looks ok :dunno:

Also picked up this really nice driver fender. It has trim holes that need filling but it's super straight and WAY better than my current one. Already sandblasted and primered.

Well at least the rusto looks good in the pics!

Looks good in person too. Dried well this last day, still stinks but it's dry to the touch. Got a Tuesday and Wednesday to dry before I mount it to the frame Wednesday after work. (provided those that said they will help come through)

The only spots I don't like are at the very back of the cab. It's just a tad dirty. Near the rockers it looks funny. The passenger side is good but the driver side is meh. It's clean but I should have sanded what paint was left. It's ok though, once it's on the frame I'll never see it again :D

Got my powder coated stuff back. Looks great except the bottom of one wheel well. There is enough rust that I can see daylight. :( Most of it looks great so I'll just learn to ignore it. The core support is awesome and all the little pieces too.

Got the glass beaded fenders and grill back too. Driver fender is trash. Passenger is a little more rough than I had hoped. It's fixable around the headlight but near the bumper I've got daylight again. It's solid so I'll probably just fill it. I don't have the money to do everything right, so it gets done so/so and runs as a bitchin daily driver. I'm glad I jumped on that really nice driver fender. Keeping an eye out for a nice passenger side. Maybe

Are all the 67-72 doors the same or are there differences? I might end up needing a passenger door. My driver door shows bondo but I've already scored a pretty nice replacement.

Just curious

Some differences are in panels between some of the years, exterior handles, and mirrors. In terms of the sheetmetal the 1972 had an interior screw for the wing windows which is inserted through a divit and hole.

All I got done last night. It's sittin on 2x4 pucks atm. :D Plus half my help left and the other half were coworkers I needed to take home lol, so the doors are waiting their turn.
Feels great
plus I have room to park my S10 again

Looking good. I like those wheels a lot. Eventually, I'll need to pull mine apart, but for now it's straight, solid, and one color so I just keep driving it.
