1968 c30 "Papa Smurf" prerunner build. links, beams, and turbo

Had some buddies stop out Saturday and help get some work done on the truck.

9" is built and installed. Back half is fully welded and painted(except shock mounts need plating yet). Deuling got my shifter mounted up. Started laying out wire harness and began working on turbo piping.

Looking good Nate! :waytogo:

Is the rear cage all painted with that Steel-It paint?

I want to get a can of that to check the exact color, but it seems like a great option for parts that will need easy touch-ups where a powdercoat or epoxy wouldn't be a good choice. :)

Actually the cage is all painted with rustoleum hammered grey paint. But the steel it is pretty much the same color as that so it looks the same.

I think the steel it is gonna be great on the parts I chose to put them on. I'll be able to check for cracks in welds as this thing gets abused and don't have to grind they paint or powder coat for repairs.

I will say however. Spray it! Don't brush it. They say you can brush it on and that's what I did but it didn't lay flat like I figured it would. I have brush strokes in it. It's nothing terrible but if I was to do it over again I'd take the time to setup and spray it instead of brush it.

Tonight I managed to knock out my door bars on the truck and in the process killed my 5th 10lb spool of wire. So pick up more tomorrow and finish welding up the cab cage and move onto finishing the engine cage. Also got the gas tank painted and ready to put the new sending unit in and fuel pump and mount the tank for good. And I even managed to change out the ball joints on my van today.

Yes sir. Divide and conquer. Pick a task and complete it and then pick another one. Until you run out of tasks. 1 month to go. Idk if it's physically possible to sleep less then I do now as it is, but I may have to give it a try. ☠️

Not tons of stuff today. Had to bring my dog to the vet, restock on my welding and grinding supplies, and try the new fruit loop milkshake at BK. But still managed to get in the garage. To work on a center counsel template(need to work on straightening edges yet and position a few more items in it yet). Tomorrow is MDW. So I'll go hang with Deuling. And bring my template

Yup. I'm a tall guy. Counsel is tall enough to act as an arm rest for me. Also to get the shifter high enough and close enough to me.

You're not running a manual valve body anyway right? Throw it in drive and hammer down......

Welded some more tubes. Finished my template. Went to Deuling's and cut out template. Just need to some minor fitting and roll some edges then I can begin mounting things in it. Also new Crow harnesses showed up. Finally have some harnesses with sewn in pads.
