Well, we've made some progress on this and the blazer lately, I just haven't really had time/willpower to post about it. On the vette we really wanted to hear this 427 run before deciding what to do drive train wise. As with any project that someone else started, we had some learning curve. But also, this guy did some interesting things... First off, the new wiring harness (universal hit rod harness) had some poor connections, as well as a number of things that were wired wrong. First one I found was the starter. Fixed that, used starter to turn engine over. Great success!
Then we moved on to ignition. This one we fought for over a week (couple hours per night). He had the msd box wired wrong, fixed that. Still no spark. Jumpered the box, it works... Scratch head. Maybe bad ignition module? Keep searching and after a number of little fixes including new cap/rotor, my dumb ass finally realized that there was a bad ground to the distributor. Voila! We have spark. Now to send fuel.
Fuel pump isn't working. Get new fuel pump. Crank engine. Huge fuel leak from missing fuel transfer tube on front carb (I completely overlooked it even though I stared at it for 2 weeks). Go to auto zone, buy 5/16 brake line and o-rings. Make new tube. Tada! Now we have all the ingredients. Had pump premium and octane booster in a can. It starts, and will Rev up some but I know the timing is off and the carbs are wasted. That said, I heard nothing that had me worried about the claimed compression ratio. So the boss decided she wants to keep it a 427 (so hot...).
Well, we took a week hiatus and went to the Bahamas. Night we got home we ordered a new intake, FiTech 800hp capable efi, new fuel tank, line and accessories. We're going to start really making progress here soon!
Here's a pic from this afternoon. I'll upload the startup video and post it in just a minute also.
Also, the transmission won't easily go into first/second, and I can't find reverse at all. Anyone (Dave) familiar with muncies? I think that's shifter mount is broken, but I haven't pulled it out yet. Whatcha think?
