water pumps can make weird noises
Are you messin with me about the soap?Start the engine. Run a bar of soap along the running surface on both sides of each belt. It will tell you if it is belts.
No loose shirts or jewelry.
I have used this trick before as well.Nope. Did it frequently. Easiest way to tell if it is a belt or not. If it's a belt, squeal stops for a little bit.

DAMN! I had nearly the exact same problem with the 6.0L Super Duty we used to own. I replaced the belt early in our ownership because it was chirping when you shut it off. New belt fixed that but we developed belt slipping over about 3000RPM, then it was 2500RPM. I checked everything, even replaced the tensioner and fan clutch because we had narrowed it down to happening when the fan clutch was engaged. Finally one day I decided to replace the Napa belt with a Ford Motorcraft belt, and that fixed it.Remove belts one at a time if Wade's truck doesn't work. It will isolate it. Don't discredit it being a new belt. I had belt squeak on my 6.0L powerstroke years ago. I had changed the belt when I got the truck so it wasn't very old. I ended up replacing ac compressor and still the noise. That's when I learned about how the pulleys that are smooth and run on the back of the belt get too smooth and cause squeaking. Lots of guys sandblast them to rough them up a bit. I also learned a neat truck from a Moab parts guy. I would take little clumps of damp blow sand(that super soft stuff in Moab) and drop them down on the backside of the belt where in ran down behind an idler pulley and voila noise be gone. At least for a few months then I would do it again. Might be a combo of smooth pulleys and slightly loose belt.
Part of what I was wondering is, why the motor would need to be running.Yeah, I'm not going to screw around by telling someone to stick there hands in a running engine area just for laughs. Unless I am there to watch.

Lol my kids loved our big sandbox yard when we lived there. They always wanted to go to the "sand hill" across from the entrance to Arch's NP and play too.If you still lived in Moab, I'd have you send me some sand.![]()
DAMN!

I don't remember what my 73,74 and 76 had, but I remember the 86 had provision for middle or corners. Also posted this in the Audio section, but thought I would put the question here as well.
This truck has a center speaker from factory. I can get a replacement speaker for that spot, but I was thinking about other options.
I know a lot of squarebody owners put small speakers in each end of the dash. Is this something all of these trucks have provisions for?
I can say my dash pad doesn't have holes/grill on the ends so I'd have to do something to open up the dash pad as well.
Curious what others have found with dash speakers.
I do not think they did. I know my dads 73 did not have them when I bought it from him. Single speaker am radio.
The front corner speakers came available with the dash change in '81. They also moved the VIN plate over to accommodate. I put a newer dash pad in my old '79 to try it and found out.
