1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
Like the budget L29 idea.

If you were closer...I have a buddy who keeps wrecking K2500 Suburbans with L29's.
Last one was a few weeks ago. Buy back from the insurance was $950 or so.

Trying to talk him into going a bit newer and find an 8.1L truck...

That's what I've been looking for, not that I want to part out a burb but sometimes that makes sense.

also want an 8.1 burb but that's for a tow rig :D

An 8.1 burb would make for a great tow rig.

Only draw back to my buddy is the trucks usually have heavy front end damage. Which is strange, since it's never his fault?

Finally starting to cool down a little bit and I've been feeling better so I decided to pull Sancho in the garage after the car show Saturday morning.

First project was replacing the kick down cable because the old one was leaking pretty bad. I thought it was the pan so that's already been replaced with a cast AL pan.

The bed floor "repair" from the PO was bugging the $hit out of me so I found another with a really clean bed floor to swap over. I ended up scoring the tailgate, another bumper and a class V hitch while I was there.

Removed the tailgate and the bumper, you can see the patch panel the PO put in.

With the bed floor removed and hauled off with the Animal I mounted my old 24 gallon K5 tank re-using some of the hardware. I still need so mount a piece of angle and bolt the straps on but it's plumbed and working.

What did you do with the bedsides?
Mine were stolen and the tailgate was already missing.
If I knew you needed a bed floor I would have sold you or even given you mine.
It's the only thing that I had left

What are you going to do for a fuel filler neck? I just had a thought, what about in the wheel well?

I'm reusing my bedsides with the GMC floor and wheel wells. I've been on the lookout for months however I found most people think they're worth a lot more than I do. I paid $50 for the bed and then for another $50 I got the tailgate, bumper and hitch.

I think bed prices are always high. We were looking for a bed for our company 2008 Silverado and every time I found one and saw the price they wanted my thought was "I'm not going to pay for the flatbed you put on in place of the factory bed".

On the fuel tank install; those ratchet straps won't rust and the bed should keep them from getting too much UV exposure, but it would probably still be a good idea to mount them with factory steel straps. IMHO

Is that a 4-post lift in your garage? I guess I didn't realize you had one. Is that what you used to lift the bed off?

Late model beds are cheaper than a squarebody shortbed around here. I think there's a company here in Sacramento that installs utility beds so they sell the factory beds.

Staps will be installed

Yes it's a 4 post lift, I keep my challenger on it normally. For bed removal I use a cherry picker.

It was very helpful with the K10 build since I was able to stand under the frame for mock-up and welding

So what did you do with the brown besides?
