1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
After a wheeling trip and some wrenching on the crawler I'm back on this mall crawler. I ended up having the heads resurfaced and cleaned along with the height on the valve guides trimmed down, then cut for the viton seals. The paint came off the heads so they had to be resprayed too. Shortly after I figured out the spring locators I ordered were designed for a beehive (smaller OD) spring rather than the dual valve springs I'm running. I ordered the correct set and had them next day from Summit (comp cams pn# 4779-8).

Torqued the heads down, installed the roller lifters, pushrods, rocker arms (need to adjust still), front timing cover, oil pan, starter, headers, bro flow manifold, distributor etc. I had to remove the engine crossmember to drop the pan however that was pretty easy since I removed all the rivets and replaced them with bolts & nuts when I refurbed the frame.

That is the prototype L29 that should be referred to when people are asking about engine swaps LS vs big block. Still looks old school, but roller cam and injection with torque way down low where our trucks need it.

Totally killing it dude. Great work. Should be a monster to drive.

What is the tray at the bottom of the lifter valley for?

It’s the spider tray. Holds the roller lifters in line. They have squared off edges that ride in a dogleg. The factory lifters have a little dog leg bracket that connects the two adjoining lifters with straight sides so they can’t rotate. That try holds downward pressure on them so they can’t wobble and rotate.

Man you are doing some amazingly clean work on that engine. Well, actually the whole damn thing. Nice work sir!!!

That’s basically what I was going for. Thank you.

If your not using it, then grab a saw and start cutting. But certainly in the oven you live in, vintage air is a long term list item?

I don’t have any plans to add AC as of right now but that could always change. Last night I was looking at the possibility of modifying the bracket and if I had a mill it probably would have been done.

I could make quick work of it on the bandsaw and smooth it over with a flap wheel pretty easily.
Yep. Just wanted you to know there is such a thing as aluminum grinding disc and flap wheels. If you wanted to. That said , I would leave it for a future ac install.

Cutting down the ac bracket is what I was getting at if you had no plans for it.

How hard are they to find if it was cut and things changed?
