1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
Did you contemplate adding a 1” body lift?

Martin

I thought about it pretty hard today before I trimmed the additional clearance for the np205. After looking it over I came to the conclusion it’s not enough added clearance to avoid cutting.

Neat boot on the sm465 shifter. Youre the only one I've seen actually using it.

You gonna have clearance to remove the 205 without pulling the cab if ever needed?

It should be fine, especially when I remove the crossmember and let the trans tilt down a little.

I need to find a 205 breather hose with a 90 though. Not enough room for a regular hose since the barb off the 205 is close to the floor.

Received my hoses for the fuel filler neck so I dropped the bed back onto the frame. Shortly thereafter I figured out my body mounts from the C10 are different for the 4wd so my cab is sitting low. Good news is the transfer case clearance I’ll gain with the correct mounts.

Question about the starter wiring....

what the heck is this tan wire for? It was bundled with the starter wiring however it’s considerably longer than the others. I don’t see listed anywhere on the schematic either.....

In your year, there should only be two tan wires under the hood. One is for the prop valve electrical switch (which obviously is not in the area you are working) and the other would be for fuel level sender in the tank. If yours is a single tank truck, that should be your fuel level wire going to the gas tank.

The cab and the C10 was a single passenger side tank.

18 ga tan could be fuel sender or brake pressure warning light. I'm guessing fuel sender from the location it's at.

yes that one is tan too, I remember seeing it on one of the frames but like you said that’s on the other side of the chassis. There’s also an alternator wire that appears to be tanish in color but it’s heavier gauge and it’s taped up with the other alternator wires that run along the valve cover.

Speaking of alternator, I still need to figure out the wiring for the 99 Vortec alternator.

On my 1973 wiring diagram it shows that wire going from the starter to the ammeter in the instrument cluster.

I can see where it would be longer than the red and yellow wires, but it should be about the same length as the purple wire. My diagram also shows it has an in line fuse. Maybe when they were making the harness someone accidentally pulled too much wire and they were too lazy to trim it back. You have a one-off wire harness.

based on the schematic @Truckman4life posted I don't see the tan wire on the 74 harness.
