Im no big block expert but Ive seen several builds .100 over.

I know you can go .100 over, that can be pretty common, pretty sure some factory blocks and be punched out to .120-.125. I think you can go more with sleeves.
I think I will just play it "safe" with a .030 or .060 over. Depends on what it needs.

I did put some gas down the carb and a battery in it before I stripped off the cab.
After a solid 8-9 years of sitting, it fired right up! So it's not like the rings took a seat or anything, I am thinking a .030 will do it, and that gives me some wiggle room down the road..

Idk how much power you think you can use unless it is a 1/4 mile only truck?

Dont skip roller, you'll regret it. Partially when you go to do an oil change and it needs what is getting to be spendy oil now with the zinc but mostly because you'll be loosing out on a cam profile with a higher lift but faster ramp in that keeps the duration reasonable for a street motor...

Actually, drag racing will only be a few times a year. I want to do some autocross in this thing. The aluminum heads are here to stay. Building for the future. Even if I never see it through. I'll never truly be happy if I settle for stock 781s

I am aware. When I was posting before the cost of BBC parts were a bit intimidating. Now that it's settled on me some I am rethinking my build some.

Pretty sure I can still reach my budget.

If you use a Vortec block, you shouldn't have to spend that much money on a roller cam.

I have looked around some but have not found a true vortec block. Idk if TBI 454 are roller blocks.
