1977 Chevy C10 shortbed resurection/restomod/ratrod

Vehicles here 15 years or older don't have an emission test--but they must pass a "visual" test,if the engine smokes pretty good, they can refuse to pass it for an inspection sticker..

A used car dealer guy I know uses "stop-smoke" oil sold at parts stores to get clunkers that smoke some to pass inspection..stuff is clear as water, and thick,it does work too--one customer of his took a car he bought that had that oil in it to my friends shop for an oil change 3000 miles later--he put 5W-30 in it ,which was the viscosity recommended on the oil filler cap,it smoked so bad the owner got pulled over on his way home and got a "verbal warning"...

He came back the next day asking WTF happened to his car,my friend said "you had that "smoke stop" oil in it,and I put back what belonged in it"...he ended up buying 5 quarts of the smoke stop oil and he changed the oil again with it and the smoking stopped..
Now the guy is pissed at the place he bought the car from!..

Vehicles older than 96 don't have to get emissions tested in Illinois
It's a joke because I passed emissions in 2015, in Colorado. I had bought a 5yr plate for the 76. Not knowing I was moving back to IL later in the year.
Since the truck is a toy and doesn't get driven much I've never bothered switching the plate.

And FYI. 99% of the counties in IL don't have emissions. Just the stupid ones by Chicago.

I've got the same stuff coming for my C10, except for the lowering stuff. Realized this morning I forgot to order sway bar bushing so I had to add those.

I did shackles in the rear but it didn't drop as much as I hoped. I think I may cut the front hanger off and get drop brackets so the rear will drop another couple inches.

I went with a poly bushing kit. I didn't realize it also included body mounts so I'll have one more thing to do still. But I dropped it off for an alignment tonight, should be done in the morning.

I noticed that when you linked it and I figured you just meant ALL the bushing. Haha

Had the front end aligned and been driving it almost everyday since. It handles better and no more popping coming from the suspension. Next up will be the new motor.

Still haven't done much more than drive it to work on occasion so far (and make sure the oil stays topped off) . Almost to the point I can pull it into the new shop and dig in for a new motor and transmission though. Just need to finish moving a few things over from the old barn before the month is out.

I recently picked up a nice tailgate trim for it and swapped it onto the green GMC tailgate from my trailer for now (hinge cup is broke off the original at the moment needing a repair and it didn't have the holes).

I like that tailgate inset panel. Is that a year and or model thing?

My 77 GMC had one (High Sierra) but my 77 C10 did not (Scottsdale). I'm guessing it was part of the trim package.
My 73 has the style that covers over the entire recessed area of the tailgate. I had kinda thought that was an 80's thing, but I don't think the tailgate has been replaced. IMO the one like you just installed looks more "70s".

I think I still have the brushed aluminum tailgate trim I took off the '74 GMC I had long ago,it covered the entire recessed area..has the "GMC" letters on it..
It had a dent in it but I kept it anyways, probably has more defects from being in storage so long I suppose now.

Working to get things organized in the shop so I can get this back inside and start tearing down the drivetrain. While the engine is out, I need to find the rust in the firewall and fix it to stop the water leaks.
