1977 lq9 k10 stepside

I haven't got the engine in but have made some progress.

I need to find good stock leaf springs though as I cant get the truck out the garage at its current hight. I like the lift but its not what I wanted the truck for.

I found someone selling axles and springs from a 78 3/4 ton longbed though. They dont know what gear ratio or what axles they are though. I think im definitely going to pick up the springs and might get the axles for a future upgrade. 3.73 or 4.10 would be better for towing compared to the 3.07 gears in my current 12 bolt. They want $400 for everything. Would $300 be a good deal even if it turns out to be a beat up 14b sf?

If the axles are out of a 1978 K20, it will be a 14bff rear. They didn't start using the semi floater for a few more years. The gears will be either 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56.

Thanks. I'm going to check out the axles this weekend. I'll probably try to get the truck running with my 1/2 ton axles as I have already switched out the brakes and bearings

Fixed. I don't know if I really need the bigger axles for what im doing. 3.73 or 4.10 gears would be better for towing but the 14bff is going to add a lot of weight. I wish it was made of tin

I think it looks great so far!
What are going to tow with a short box that you need a 14 ff??
A 6 lug 14 sf would be perfect in that truck.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I didn't go look at those axles. I want to get it running and drive it as it is first

I have got the engine in for the final time. Purchased Dakota digital gauges and just need to finish up the wiring and a few small things before starting it.

I need to adjust my driveline angles. Trans output is at 7° down driveshaft 14° and pinion angle is 3°. I think I'm going to shim my trans crossmember down a few degrees to level out the drive shaft some. It looks like I'm going to still need to shim my rear a few degrees though. I'll post pics later today.

Also, what is the pinion angle supposed to be for Corp 10b's?

Engine is in, wiring is done and she runs.

Been working a lot in the engine bay the last few weeks. Installed windstar electric fans and escalade truck fuse box. Still need to get a battery and a ebay silverado cold air intake.

Wiring

Fan and Radiator hose install

fuse box and computer mounted

Brakes are done.

I had to modify the brake pedal for power brakes.

This is how she sits today

I'm also waiting on a conversion u-joint and hope to take it for a test drive as soon as it comes in.

I am extremely jealous of your truck. Basically my dream squarebody, but alas I'm stuck with a 73 K10 longbed :(

Its been a while since I posted a update but I have been busy working on the truck.

I found a passenger drop shifter and was able to make it work with the little room I have.

I made sure I cleaned all of my vinyl real well and used duplicolor black vinyl dye/ paint.

I also found a good condition 80-87 dash pad on craigslist. I would have rather had the early 73-80 version but this one worked out ok.

I sprayed the bed, wood strips and grill with raptor liner. This stuff was awesome.

I didn't like the way the el camino bumper fit and looked but was able to find someone parting out a stepside and now have a stock bumper and taillights.

This is where I also picked up the wood and wood strips for my bed. The wood needed some sanding but should turn out ok.

I also cleaned up the engine bay some. The engine cover isn't the correct HO or Vortec Max cover but it works. I really like the way the fuse box turned out. The computer is hidden behind the fusebox on the back of the inner fender.

I took it for a quick test drive today and hope to finish up most things up this weekend. I need to finish wiring the rear brakes. Setup the parking brake. Mount my trailer hitch and a bunch of other small things. I hope to get it registered an maybe inspected next week. I haven't decided on how I'm going to register it yet.

As it looks like I am going to stick with bigger tires (34's or 35's) I definitely need new axles with higher gears. I am going to start looking for a 88-98 14bsf 6 lug with 4:10's and a dana44 with 4:10s. I think I want the dana44 for high steer. I already have a 2wd steering box. I think all dana44's with 4:10's are 8 lug but can't I use my corp10 outers?

It like my truck only with a cooler engine

Can you post a pic of the complete interior? Maybe black would be better than my current maroon?

The gen 3 install looks real clean. I like the 208 shifter mod, need to do that to mine.
