1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Today after work I picked up a set of plugs and wires. I had a brand new cap and rotor laying around still so I put that on also.

First off, that is the last net of off the shelf plug wires I will ever buy... Second, every time I get up under the hood I realize I'm getting fatter and older... Either way, I essentially gave it a tune up.

Runs pretty decent but I'm still convinced something is off. It just feel like the part throttle is out of whack either in the carb or dist. But at least it runs good enough to burn them off nicely in the rain! Lol

Spark plug wires I have bought often are crap, brand new out of the box...always was a hard time finding "good" ones,I tried Standard Aramid Core wires, those sucked,I had decent luck with a few sets of Autolite wires (while my friend had NONE with several sets he bought!),I ended up using Filko "Mag-Core" wires that seemed the best out of all the parts store brands I tried..

Autozone's wires were crap, the insulation is thin as balloons and tears when you insert them into the wire looms, then leak to ground there...Accel wires I didn't like either--once I bought a set with "real" stainless conductors you had to snip to length and assemble, and right away my engine skipped..the spark came thru the boots to the head instead of firing the plugs...

Also the Accel "Super Coil" I bought for my Buick with points was "too" powerful, that thing put out so much voltage the spark never made it to the plugs,it leaped thru the jacket to ground..put my Delco coil back on it,and it ran much better...especially on foggy damp rainy days..

You might want to make sure your vacuum advance is working (assuming it has that)--and its hooked up properly--some engines like ported vacuum and some dont...also see if the mechanical advance works, isn't stuck,or have a lot of slop on the weight pins..the rotor should move freely and snap back under spring tension when you move it..

I've had a few Rochester carbs that needed that "APT" (adjustible part throttle) screw that is "tamper proof" opened up a turn or two,to get the engine to "cruise" without giving that herky-jerky sensation..the carb manuals show where its hidden, and says "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADJUST"...I drilled the lead plug out and tweaked the setting till it ran good, but had a hard time getting it sealed up again...that's why they tell you "dont touch" probably..

That's a familiar feeling. I, too, am the oldest I've ever been, and the truck reminds me of that fact each time I lay out flat over the radiator to reach the rearmost corners of the engine bay. Added note: my dad is not sympathetic to these realizations.

Enjoying following your work. Truck looks outstanding with the new paint.

Just a couple quick sexy time pics.

I'm going to be getting tires soon and want 285 75 16 like I have on the burb. I know the burb rubs the fenders occasionally so I needed to see if they would fit or rub on a 2wd before I bought them. I happened to have this wheel and tire laying around with a 285 75 16 tire on it so I used it to check with. Looks like plenty of room!

Garage flexin!

And approximately how it will look at ride height after the 4x4 swap!

Cause they are the best! 16x7 and slightly more offset! They just look better enough to hold out for them.
