If those are 16" I have a set of 4 Ford 8 luggers I found for 30 bucks at a yard sale in 1990,the guy had bought new aftermarket rims + tires ..

I ran them on my '77 K2500 a long time,I used the Ford lug nuts with the 1-1/16" hex though, because the Chevy ones with 7/8" hex looked like they might pull through, but I've run them with those also, with no issues..the oem GM hub caps fit the Ford rims good too..

Right now I have one of the Ford rims on the rear on my 82 GMC ,I noticed the offset on the Ford rim tucks the rim in closer to the bed by about an inch maybe...
I should either mount the tires on all Ford rims or GM's and not have them mis-matched,but driving the truck,I dont notice any ill effects really..soon I'll be swapping 4 GM rims with 265/75/16's for the winter onto it anyway..

Of you found them in 1990, then I don't think they were the 7" wide units I was after. From my research, they ran these wheels from 92-97 and longer on the vans.

I thought I was the only one who loved those Ford steelies. They are a great wheel if plain steel is what you want.

They are not hub centric when used on a GM,but that never gave me any issues, and I hauled a lot of weight in my '77 K2500 with those rims..

I saw four 17" Ford 8 lug rims I could have bought cheap not long ago,I was about ready to fork the cash over for them,so I could put the 4 B.F. Goodrich TA's I have in 245/75/17" size to use on my truck..

Good thing I decided to jack up the truck and try one first--the later Fords have a different 8 lug metric bolt spacing than the "usual" 8 luggers we're used to..(dammit!)...they also had some strange 7 lug rims for a few years too!...

I've seen 7-lug plastic caps on Ford trucks, but each time I've peeled one off I found 5 lugs wheels hiding underneath.

Sure does look funny, though. :dunno:

Oh,they do exist--some "heavy payload" option or something..
There are several versions in steel and aluminum factory--here is a picture of one type..

Yea, 7 lug, and the wheel pattern change up is among ford's many MANY stupid ideas.

In all fairness, GM has had its share of bad ideas, too.

* What's up with running 5 and 6 lug wheels on the same series of 1/2-ton truck? Makes finding wheels a bit of a headache.
* Why are 1/2-ton backing plates so slightly smaller then 3/4-ton ones? Barely different, yet incompatible.
* Why bother with 27-spline tranny-->T-case shafts?
* Why did 3/4-ton trucks get 10-bolt front axles?

These are just square-body annoyances. Other models have their share as well.

* Why did it take so long to finally produce a decent 1/2-ton O/D manual transmission? (They were YEARS behind Ford in this category)
* Why did they think that pump-mounted drivers (6.5TD) were a good idea?
* Why, why, oh why did 14bff axles continue to place the brake drum behind the hub? This was never a good idea, but still it persisted far longer than it should have.
* Yes, they changed their lug spacing, too. :doah:
* And countless other things from various models throughout the decades.

Ok, rant off. I obviously prefer GM to other brands out there, but that doesn't mean that they're exempt from stupid ideas. Hindsight is 20/20.

Yep. Good and bad to be found everywhere!

In other news, I know I have said this before, but I might be getting a D60 in the next few days! It will be attached to a whole truck, but I'm just going to pilfer the 60 and th400/205 combo and sell the rest to a friend who will make it back into a running driving rig!

Here's a question for ya...wouldn't it be easier to swap the bodies than to swap out all the suspension stuff? I haven't done a 4WD conversion, but it sounds like it's more work to go that way than to simply work with the body end of things.

For me, no. I have done the 2wd to 4wd swap before and it's not too bad. The big issue for me is the space to do it in. If I had a big shop or space outside I would consider it. But the fact that I can have the front end up in there in my toasty warm garage and just sort of work on it as I have time, that's the better choice for me. If I were dedicated I could at least have the truck back on its own weight in a weekend.

Fair enough. I look forward to progress pictures. :)
