I guess this was the question I started with but didn’t finish asking. Can I grind these nubs down? Is there a purpose? This is purely for aesthetics.

I’d trim all 4 off.
Did a little grinding and shaping today on the axle before loading everything up for blasting. I wanted to keep the 10 bolt nubs but I’m pleased with how the top came out.
There's no reason to keep the nubs down there
