1978 K5 Tribute Restomod (402BBC EFI, 205, 3/4 Ton)

1986 K5 to 1978 K5 Tribute
Did a little grinding and shaping today on the axle before loading everything up for blasting. I wanted to keep the 10 bolt nubs but I’m pleased with how the top came out.

So a little bit of an update. Got a lot of parts that bolt onto the frame blasted and coated. They look fantastic. The frame issue I have of it possibly being kinked has been really bothering me, so I have been searching for another frame or having a local shop that makes chassis mandrel bend me two 2x6 frame rails.

Both of those options posed different issues. Another frame usually came with a body and axles and drivetrain stuff I just didn’t want to deal with, and have the possibility of that frame being the same as mine. With the mandrel bent frame rails, that was very enticing because I knew about the strength benefits, but dealing with sleeving all the bolt holes for the spring hangers, body mounts, crossmembers, steering parts and shock mounts was daunting. If I didn’t already have all those parts it would’ve actually been easier I think. So in my searching, I came upon a pretty complete 74 full vert blazer. All of my parts are transferable and that leaves the other body for another K5 project for me or someone else. I weighed the options, sunk cost, and cool factor of a full vert and decided to check it out. We went this morning and it was in pretty good shape. Better than my other one was when I started and I got a pretty good deal in my opinion. So anyway, I suppose I need to change the title of this thread because everything is going to move forward with the 74 full vert now. Long explanation over, onto the pics.

I paid a little extra to get the correct seats with it. I’ll need to upholster those so I’ll hold onto the high backs and rear seat I’d already done for the other body.

Also, some brilliant PO installed a coil spring 2wd front member on this. I checked everything and the hangers are still in place. I’m guessing there a few additional holes that were drilled to install that but I’ll learn more when I go through the process of stripping the frame.

It was pretty cool going through it. The SPID was still in the glove box and everything checked out with what was on it. I did not plan on this project being Grecian Bronze but it’s on the table now, since that’s original.

Tp say you are converting a 2wd to 4wd.
Didn't realize it was previously so a lot easier
