1980 gmc.. build thread.. im back.. post 438. :/

worked on the axle today, took the tire/rims off, some stuff. just looking at it, now all i got to do is find a SRW hubs, and work on it, then shove it under my 80 gmc.. hopefully to do all of those within a week or 2.

you can get SRW hubs at a dealership. they will come with new rotors, studs and races for $160 each. I reused the bearings in mine since they were good and it was going in a trail truck, you might want new ones. shop around and get a set of loaded calipers, they are cheaper then buying pads and calipers separate.

thanks for telling me i can get them at dealership! ill have to check out the one near me.. i was hoping to run a D44 calipers on mine, i know will have to modify it, but is it worth it? or not. im guessing not since i will be running 16 n bigger rims. and what do u mean abt loaded calipers? like a caliper and pads together? instead of seperately?

in order to run a dana 44 caliper you need to run the 3/4 ton rotors and a special bracket. it might be cost effective for you since you probably have most of the parts on your current axle.

here is one I found. scroll down. but for $165 a pair you just bought yourself a complete hub for one side with a one ton rotor.

yes loaded means with pads and hardware.

didnt do nothing with the truck, but went to the same junkyard where i got the d60 again, to look for the spring plates, it wasnt there so ill have to buy one, and i found another D60.. might be getting that one for free, since the entire part on the drivers side is missing, so it would be a good spare.. and was walking around, then found a 74 chevy dump truck, dually 2wd, looked around, the doors were rust free, so i took em off and they were free. am hoping to work on the truck tomorrow, wait n see whats going on. pics of the door included. the D60 in the truck is the same axle, i was too lazy to take it out of the truck today, maybe tomorrow.

Changed the doors on the 80 gmc, got home, took the D60 out of the truck... im too old for this sheeit! no one th help me, no engine jack this time.. man im too old! then got it on the jack stands. whew man, took the cover off, and oh man i made a biggg mess, i forgot to leave one bolt in to let the oil out with out the cover falling down, after a bag of cat litter, i went to check the gear ratio its 4.56.. so i got to re gear my rearend.:doah: i was hoping it was 410s for now.. oh well. tomorrow i got to work at the farm, thursday am hopin to go back to the same junk yard for the radiator support, fenders, and 456 gears.

Looks like we'll be running the same gears. LOL. Soooooooooo.........what junk yard is that? Seems like they got some old iron.

rust free original body parts arr always a good score it took me over a year to find a solid rad support for my 76 blazer :k5:

not much of a update, havent been workin on the truck, but worked on the D60 so that counts. i got the dually hubs off, my first time, and its my first time, but i defentily know it wasnt together right! the po put on a broken washer or whatever, the snap on ring was not even in the right place. bearings were good tho, im not usin em.
the calipers were frozed solid in place! after alot of hitting with the hammer, no luck. alot of PB BLASTER no luck, i say screw it! went to my dads garage and grabbed my torch, cutted the darn calipers off. now its all apart.
I have the 1/2-3/4 ton caliper bracket for the D60 coming, same with SRW hubs coming. wont be here til 1st week of june tho. thats all so far..
