Wow:eek1: Watching Chief's build and this, as well, I'm lucky I got my truck done for what it cost me. I do like Deuling's idea of getting it running and then see about paint and making it look pretty. Although, I think the majority of us at ck5 see the beauty in these trucks as they run/work and over look any cosmetic issues. Love the build by the way. Keep plugging away:waytogo:.
 
2k will get you a maaco job. But dont expect them to do much body work not that you have a ton) or for them to do it "right". They are in the business of scuff and shoot. For a "done right" paint job that will look good for 25 years, you better figure 2k in materials alone.

The body is really straight, it's got some waves in the bed but nothing bad. Holes in the bed top need to be welded and a 2 inch hole on top of the cab.

Headers are on my door step:woot: I will update soon.

On the semi, which is big, but no more area than your truck, I have $700 in materials only. And I still get shop pricing. And I did all of the labor.

Same here. I sprayed two primers. Epoxy and a filler and then the base coat and primer i had around 700 in the end of painting my suburban with alot of hours of self labor. I figure that would have had to atleast cost me 2-2.5k to have a shop do.it
 
I had 400+ hours in just prep. Fiberglass repair, rock chips all over the front of the hood and peeling paint on the cab. Shop wanted $8k to prep and paint it the right way. Fiberglass, epoxy primer, filler primer, non sanding epoxy primer, base coat and clear coat.

Ben, I am in the process of looking for a house. When I find one, get it running, drive it up here and we can spend a week on it and get it painted.

They are Doug Thorley trip y lsx swap headers. If I remember right, Wade's Dad used to design for Doug.
 
They were some serious coin, but it was save save and skip lunches to get them or get lucky and have factory ones fit without cutting the frame. I don't like that idea, these frames need all the help they can get as is.
 
:haha: Would I really be that much ahead? Most likely not but every little helps. The frame in front of the shackles will be plated, I have a steering box brace and the hoops will be tied together with a cross bar. I hope this will add some structural integrity.
 
It will be fine. Your not going to be jumping it and you already said your not doing big crawling stuff.

Speed bumps won't do that much damage.
