Babaganoosh you've got plenty of room. It's not like you're going to have to worry about an HEI distributor sticking out the back of the engine. You need to make sure you'll have plenty of room in the front for the radiator and whatever fan setup you're going to run (I'm assuming an electric fan).

I want to use a electric fan. I might push the engine back a inch or so. I don't want it to close but not much. I just need to drill 4 new holes isn't that big of a deal.

Id leave it where it sits front to back.. Do you realize how much easier that makes removing/installing the tranny?
 
That is a good point, it was pretty easy to get to the bolts.

I'll leave it for now and see how the new motor mounts do when they are in my hands.
 
Yeah don't bolt it down until you find out where everything else is going to end up. That's what I was trying to say.
 
Only thing that was drilled was the frame plates for the motor mounts. 4 holes, will be easy to fix that.
 
I'll try and get one tomorrow. By "try" I mean try to remember. And by "one" I mean a measurement. :D

If your springs can end up being flatter, that will help with your caster angle. Also your rear suspension height will affect your caster angle.

Where you able to get this? I stopped by for a few mins today at the garage, it looks like my rear hanger is up higher then the front spring hanger. I'm sure that doesn't add to the fact of caster.
 
I keep forgetting. Hopefully I'll remember when we make it home today.
 
47.875" eye to eye.

I would like to measure the distance from ground to each spring eye but I don't have a good level spot to measure that at home.
 
Is that along the leaf following the arch? Was it you that mentioned the rear hanger should be at the same location as the front? was that the frame bushing or the spring bushing?

I may have made that observation at some point in my build but I don't remember.

That measurement is straight across to give you some reference for ride height. Following the spring would yield the same number regardless. IIRC that number was 48.5"
 
To expand, my thinking is you can set your ride height where the spring eyes are 47.875" apart. That's not as exact as having your truck sitting on it's full suspension but maybe enough to help you get a more accurate read on your caster angle.

It seems like the rear hanger for the front springs should be a simple matter of drilling holes for the through-the-frame hanger, and it is. However where this bracket is located the frame is completely different between 2wd and 4wd. What it boils down to is the 4wd frame has a shorter profile to allow room for the rear spring eye of the front spring to swing back and forth on the shackles. This means in order to keep the Springs from hitting the frame you will end up with the rear of the front springs hanging lower on the 2wd frame than they would be on a 4wd. If you leave the springs like this it can affect ride quality and it will make the caster angle extremely positive. In order to fix the caster angle I had to modify the B52 brackets mentioned earlier and drop the front of the springs 3”. The net result was that with 4” lift springs I have 6” of lift. I have a question, with the million bolts holding down the engine cross member would it be OK if I slotted the frame for the main frame mount for the motor mounts?
